SLOW NOT USER FRIENDLY TERRIBLE!!

Pros: NOTHING! it is worthless

Cons: HORRIBLE DO NOT USE

User Rating: 8/10

Better than Some, Not so much for most.

Pros: Non Responding tabs self recover.
Web Slices are nice.
Many easy mouse gesture shortcuts.
Speeds are very competitive and compatiablitiy is great.

Cons: I cannot make myself like the new look. But for most people that is not a problem.

Review: I recommend it over IE7. I believe the speed is the same as Firefox. Compatability is always better than the others.

Installation: Easy, Also available through updates.

Uninstallation: Simple, Add/Remove installed updates.

Interface: I do not like it, but most people do.

Ease Of Use: Simple.

Features: Lots more than previous versions.

"5-star ratings must be bogus, this CRASHES LIKE CRAZY

Pros: The topic-color tabs are a good add on. Individual tab closes with crash, not the entire pogram.

Cons: Does not work with many sites. CRASHES more than any browser I have used in the past 10 years.

Review: I am NOT a Microsoft employee, so here is an un-biased summary: CRASHES and DOESN'T WORK with many sites. Wait for the update patch to come out before downloading it. In typical Microsoft style, this was released BEFORE bugs were worked out. Even MS can't create programs that function properly for their lousy OS!

Updated on May 10, 2009

Aubin, This is a more secure browser because it crashes with so many websites. If you can't access anything, you will not get anything. :-) Good review, I had many of the same problems and then some.

User Rating: 5/10

Good, but no firefox killer

Pros: This is a major improvement over IE7, it crashes less and had more speed. It looks great especially in Windows 7 RC and is a useable browser.

Cons: Although Ie8 has speed, crash adn security improvements, its no better than my really old netsacpe and firefox 2 had the same feature set other than a few improvements.

Review: Internet Explorer has become a useable browser with realease 8 but it's not good enough. The windows 7 RC is great but this lets it down. Microsoft has the most used browser and it's wrong that they are so far behind Mozilla Firefox and even Google Chrome. Although microsoft has taken a step foward with IE8 it should be better. Many people use internet explorer because it is, to them anyway their only choice so it makes sense IE should be the best browser.
Im in IE8 now on Windows 7 RC and once im finished writing this im installing mozilla firefox.

A major step back in speed from IE7

Pros: Uninstalled easily.

Cons: Unacceptable browser and tab load speed.

Review: Terrible.

User Rating: 1/10

why did i downld this!?

Pros: ummm....none! Crash and burn!

Cons: TRASH! CRASHED! not even worth that half star!

Review: What better features?

User Rating: 5/10

Surprisingly bad

Pros: Same interface as IE 7, recommended sites feature is cool.

Cons: Slow to load, hangs, cant go to cnet.com thats right I am writing this from firefox, everytime i try to go to cnet.com on both of my vista machines it hangs and restarts.

Review: GO BACK TO IE7 wait until this so called stable software is stable.

User Rating: 10/10

This Picky User is Satisfied!

Pros: *Compatiable with almost every site (all that ive used)
*Smart Bar is very "smart"
*Tab Recovery is awesome. No more "not responding"
*Fast, to me as fast as Firefox
*Categorized Tabs with color!

Cons: *I think the only thing I would change is the look of the overall interface. It is time for a change. No big deal.

Review: I have never been a Firefox fan, but used it religously when IE7 was the only browser for vista.
Now, I have no reason to use firefox.
The speed of IE8 is very well.
And, at least I almost never have to worry about a compatiablity issue since almost all pages are rendered for IE.

I RECOMMEND!!

User Rating: 2/10

What good is a browser I don't want to use?

Pros: The overall look and feel of IE 8 is excellent. It is configurable and easy to use. Further, it appears to do a good job at blocking pop ups.

Cons: It is a dog. IE is slow and prone to hanging up. I did not experience any crashes, but IE8 was so slow, I downgraded to IE7.

Review: IE is not ready for prime time. Like so many other Microsoft products, they need to strip out the bloat and learn how to code more efficiently. IE is a memory hog that should be avoided. I will stick with Firefox until MS deploys a faster iteration.

I HATE THIS PROGRAM!! IWORST thing MicroS**t has madet!

Pros: NONE.... ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY N~O~N~E

Cons: EVERYTHING! Interrupts security software because it has it's own (you can't use two at same time or you'll have problems galore~~that's fairly well known). ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IS A MESS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM. Thanks MicroS**t for killing my puter.

Review: I downloaded this program yesterday and no sooner had I done so than my puter started screeching. LITERALLY SCREECHING. My F-Secure suddenly is popping up with notices that I.E. is trying to change my system files; my Outlook Express constantly compresses all the files in it. My puter is acting like it's demon possessed and it started the VERY MINUTE I finished installing 8.

Not only that, but just TRY to get rid of it once it's there. I've been trying ALL DAY and most of yesterday trying to get rid of it and it just keeps popping right back up.

I'm going to manually delete the whole darn thing with BC Wipe and just continue to use Mozilla like always. I must have been demon possessed to be stupid enough to download anything from MicroS**t. I cannot believe I did! Temporary insanity is all I can claim. I should know better.

Don't download this program unless you really want your puter screwed up royally. It even causes e-mails to go to multiple people that I've not directed e-mails to go to. That's downright embarrassing!

I forwarn you... DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! Especially if you have expensive security software. It even blew my F-Secure Firewall out and replaced it with the useless MicroS**t firewall (we all KNOW it's useless, right?). It tries to override my F-Secure constantly and it's causing so many conflicts that things that aren't even viruses or spyware are getting deleted all by themselves.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF THIS :PROGRAM without manually going through the whole darn thing in Windows Explorer? HELP!

Since writing my review I figured out how to get rid of the beast. Problem is that is has screwed so much up in my puter I'm going to have to do a system restore to get rid of the mess. Let's hope it works.

Way too slow

Pros: hasnt got anything at this stage that outweighs the speed of ie7

Cons: it took an unacceptable amount of time to start ie8 and to open another tab.it was snail pace compared to ie7 with more crashes

Review:

User Rating: 4/10

Mediocre - but that's what we expect these days from MS

Pros: It kind of works.
Easy install, easy uninstall.

Cons: You cannot load the browser with more than two tabs opening at the same time.
Cluttered.
Not intuitive.
Needs to go on a diet and rethink menuing.
Repeated crashes. I'll stay with Firefox.
Has problems with games.
Display/standards errors.

Review: When will Microsoft learn. The overall feeling you get is that different departments are working on different parts of the product but none of them are talking with each other. We know that is true between product lines. There is nothing more frustrating that installing what is hailed as the latest and greatest and right out of the box it crashes repeatedly. We have more stability under the old version. I do not find this version to be any faster than the last - which was its herald - in fact, this latest incarnation is slower. I've had problems with Java and Flash sites. I have found that it renders sites incorrectly.
I'd say that it is better than MS Office 2007, but that is not saying much.
Hopefully the service pack will fix a lot of problems. But, hopefully, MS won't wait until there are 150 updates before they release the first one!

User Rating: 3/10

Hope the final release is better

Pros: Not much to like

Cons: Too much clutter; too many crashes & screws up my Norton software.

Review:

User Rating: 5/10

Not as good as I.E.7.

Pros: The ability to open tabs from the links bar. Ability to reopen last session.

Cons: It loads so much slower than the last version, especially when you open a new tab. It almost seems to freeze.

Review: I thought Firefox was a slow load, but I can be up and surfing before I.E. 8 even loads my home page. I'd roll back to I.E.7 but I can't find it anywhere.

User Rating: 4/10

Odd behavior with large fonts

Pros: Supposedly more secure and web standards compliant. Fairly easy install (for Microsoft ;)

Cons: Odd behavior with large screen fonts in Windows XP. All icons and images are enlarged and fuzzy.

Review: Like many Windows users I have a large LCD monitor that is set to use large fonts (120 dpi). With this setting IE 8 automatically enlarges all icons (favicons) and images by 25%. The favicons are pixelated and the images are fuzzy. I've searched and have not found a way to correct these display problems-- perhaps Microsoft is enlarging the images in a misplaced attempt at accessibility. I uninstalled IE 8.

User Rating: 3/10

more crashes than Bandicoot

Pros: most of the reviews I read said this was a great version

Cons: crashes consistently, not just on one tab but entirely,

Review: This is a great product for selling Chrome, which I have been forced to use with absolutely no problem.

User Rating: 1/10

IE 8 does not work well with game sites!

Pros: NONE - IE 8 crashes on way too many web sites!

Cons: If you like playing on game sites like POGO or Yahoo games - "Forget about it" - you will not be able to even stay on the page.. it will give you an error and close.

Review: Stay with IE7 if you even play games on line.

User Rating: 5/10

Not that impressive

Pros: New views and more security

Cons: a lot of crashes opens slowly

User Rating: 4/10

ORKUT does not work properly. Something should be done.

Pros: Its good has lot of features.

Cons: Orkut does not work properly and it sucks. The company should do something about it.

Review: Good ONLY IF the shortcomings are taken care of

User Rating: 4/10

Slower and disorganized

Pros: A bit faster than previous versions

Cons: Too much clutter, many tabs are on automatic - everything points to Live Search automatically

Review: I'll stick with Firefox - it beats IE and Safari hands down

User Rating: 10/10

Sorry people I like it

Pros: Choice of favorites on the toolbar I like

Cons: haven't found anything as yet

Review: As usual - the regular nay sayers on the microsoft that was htere with Vista also. I've been using Vista for 2 years - no problems. I now have the IE 8 - no problems. Maybe some people just need to learn how to use and maintain their PC's and dthen they would not be so disappointed.

The new virsion of microsoft's internet explore, BETTER

Pros: Faster - the new internet explorer 8 is faster then it was on previos versions such as IE8 Beta 1, Beta 2 and IE7

Safer - well it is safer then the other version such as IE6 and IE7

Toubleshooting - you can now talk to them from your computer.

Cons: No spell check! - it would be better if they added a spell check feature similar to that on microsoft word when the light is green when it dosent make sense or can be arranged to make better sense. or red when it's spelled wrong.

sometimes crashes

Review: I really liked the IE, it's beter to look at then IE7 and looks great on vista. all you need is a normal windows vista computer and it'll run fast. and the troubleshooting is better now that you can talk to someone online with your problem thats something i never saw in safari. the bookmarks bar makes it easier to find your bookmarks. and its safer. every time you download something smartscan comes on and checksto see if any users have had problems with it.

one of the problems i saw was no spell check feature. firefox and safari got it, why not IE. i think they should use something like microsoft word and make a underline green light up under the sentace that don't makes sense, and be able to tell you how to reverse it. and also make make a red under the word thats spelled incorretly. and to be honest it crashed on me like 1 time. so other then that it's great!

maybe it'll get better in later versions, i mean time nor Microsoft stoped yet so why not. IE8 is currently my default web browser and only web browser i have currently installed on my computer.

Thanks For Reading, And God Bless

NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME

Pros: Sometimes it works

Cons: Microsoft is just like George Bush. Everything they touch or try gets screwd up. Too many crashes and hang ups to be acceptable.

Review: Just use your old browser. IE 8 is nothing but moire problems from Microsoft

Updated on Apr 30, 2009

I just installed Microsft's new and "improved" security updates and the stupid thing keeps hanging. I just wish something (I don't know what) could happen to Microsoft to make the idiots who run the place wake up and realize that they "just can't make" an inferior product and too bad for the public.

Updated on May 12, 2009

The more I use IE 8 the more frustrated I get. If it were any slower it would be going backward and yes, I use deifferent browsers and the same connection when comparing.

IE8 Team "Missing in Action"

Pros: Some known security issues seem better so far, but...

Cons: Many popular websites simply will not display properly on IE8. Some Flash and Java will stick, display wrong or fail entirely on IE8. We're talking about standard code that works well on Firefox, Safari or Chrome and even on older versions of IE!

Review: Microsoft just doesn't get it. It appears that Redmond still expects the world to dance to their tune rather than making their products compatible with the real world. Jack Nack said it best: "the IE team is apparently missing in action." Unless Microsoft learns to release functional compact products that "plays well with others," Redmond will move farther into the wilderness. In a world that's quickly falling in love with the compact power of Unix, the monster headroom and slow response of Windows products seem more and more like a starving dinosaur slogging through the tar pits. If they're this foolish with their Windows 7 release, they could well become extinct as well. For now, choose any one of the more compact browsers that actually work. Don't bother with this unstable release of IE8.

Take half hour to install a browser?

Pros: Haven't even tried

Cons: Take half hour to install.

Review: I am extremely pissed. I know I don't have to update, but what the heck is "checking malware" ? I am installing a browser not anti-virus? Why do microsoft assume I am an idiot and my computer must need a scan? I cannot imagine installing IE would take longer than installing photoshop, what a shame!

Much faster than IE 7

Pros: Extremely fast, in-private web browser, slightly redisgned taskbar looks good on XP.

Cons: Has compatibility issues with the Skype software I'm using.

Review: When webpages on my computer loaded up, I thought it was the internet connection or the Pentium 4 processor. Although I understood it was IE 7 causing the problem. After downloading IE 8 from microsoft, I restarted my Dell Dimension 4600 and Whoa! the download time was fast. It seems as fast as Safari, but that web browser is UNIX-based, so it, of course, is very fast.

User Rating: 8/10

It's surprisingly good.

Pros: Some new added features, fast and reliable, it's good and clean, definitely great improvement frm IE7

Cons: not much major improvements, firefox still is better

Review: I'm not sure why lots of ppl like super hate IE8, i personally think its quite good. Nothing much to complain about.

User Rating: 10/10

I'm impresssed

Pros: Faster then Firefox 3 with some great new features. Lots of add ons as well

Cons: None that i have seen so far.

Review: I've been using Firefox for the past 2 years now and have converted back to the best browswer ala IE8. The only real thing that drew me to FF was browsing speed. IE8 is only a few MB larger in file size and has some nifty new features. So like most review sites have stated IE8 is once again king until the team at FF delivers somethign substantiially better

User Rating: 8/10

Almost great browser

Pros: Faster loading speeds than IE7.
Many performance improvements.
New features are quite handy.

Cons: Still takes up too much memory.
Takes too long to open.
Setup requires a restart.

Review: Overall Internet Explorer 8 is a great browser. It is still slow when you start it up and tabs take a while to open too. I would still recommend Firefox over IE.

User Rating: 10/10

great browser indeed.

Pros: fast loading periods. reduced crashes. in-private browsing offers enhanced security while surfing the internet using a public computer. if one tab crashes, the others won't crash.

Cons: might take some time to install IE8 on slow machines.
installation requires a restart.

IE8 install

Pros: Nothing absolutely nothing

Cons: Installed IE8. Told to restart. Gave me a blank screen. Took me 3 hours using Visat's diagnostics to restore my PC. Never never download this 'product'!!!!!

Problems: doesn't work out of the box, so to speak

Pros: Very easy install; more importantly, a very easy uninstall.

Cons: Compatibility page viewing issues; Norton Internet Security problems

Review: Perfectly easy installation. IE8 does seem promising; however, it does not ?just? work without some user-end tweaking. There are too many problems, I suspect, for most users.

One example: accessing VerizonWireless.com was rejected by IE8. I had to add it to some sort of viewing compatibility dialog in the Security (I think that was it) menu (dropdown). And, while that then permitted the Verizon Wireless homepage to load with out crashing, I couldn't find anyway to get IE8 to accept the My Verizon settings; it accepted the logon\password, but promptly crashed. In other words, IE8 prevented me from paying my bill, checking my minutes, etc?

..had the same issues with several other commonly accessed web pages. In order to view the pages, I had to first manually add them to the compatibility view dialog.

And, there seems to be a problem with Norton Internet Security.

While IE8 displays the Norton toolbar, Norton's menus do not work; what's more, Norton continuously shows an error that it's no longer providing Phishing protection; even if IE8 says otherwise.

In any event, whatever?s going on, IE8 requires too many user adjustments for the normal user.

I think this will be a great IE browser for Microsoft, but just not yet.

Good news: it's very, very easy to remove from the support.microsoft site, itself.

Too much clutter, disorganized, too many crashes

Pros: Not a lot I can think of

Cons: Too much clutter, disorganized screen, too many crashes, could not even access CNET as it kept crashing

Review: I am sure many appreciate the newer features and improved security, but I remained at the archaic IE 6 because IE 7 added too much clutter and took up too much "screen real estate". I upgraded to IE 8 only to find more clutter and features I don't really need. IE 6 is simple, two single lines running along the top of the screen, the "back", "forward", "home key", etc, are all lined up in one convenient location, and the second line has only the address bar and the google search box. IE 8 has taken away my mail key allowing me to write email straight from the browser, (IE 8 only allows me to send a page or a link from the browser), it's added all those tabs, keys, slices, the "back", "forward", "refresh", "home" keys are scattered across the top of the screen in different tiny locations, and basically the layout and clutter is a mess. I tried rearranging the lines and tabs up top but trying to simply add and delete stuff I don't want or need and moving all to one line is too tricky as always as it constantly gets out of order as it is so difficult juggling the individual lines, (as it's always been.) All the tabs piling up are not needed, I was certainly fine with opening as many windows as needed, I waited for IE 8 to come out hoping I would get the inproved speed and security as well as being able to add and delete the tabs and features and to have the option to arrange for a simple, streamlined, neat organized browser, like IE 6, but Microsoft just can't seem to get it right. The tabs kept crashing when I tried going to CNET, and my AOL homepage kept crashing as well and would not load their website, and each time it kept repeating the annoying endless cycle of reopening the browser window and trying again then crashing until I was able to close the window myself. I did a system restore after one day and reverted back to IE 6. I am really unsure if IE 6 is even safe to use. I will try using Google Chrome since they realize that what's important is viewing the content on the web pages, not adding all the complicated clutter and features that some find useless, and offering a browser like thier home page -- plain and simple.
