"iPod/car stereo perfection"
Pros: Sleek interface/ iPod controls are just as easy as on the ipod
Cons: EQ Tuning is a little annoying
Summary: I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this after reading negative reviews about past iPod compatible Sony stereos, but I decided to take a chance on this.
I was pleasantly surprised. The iPod controls through this head unit are pretty much just as smooth as using the iPod itself. Just click the browse button and go through the same menus as you would on the iPod (playlist/artist/track/album) One of my favorite things about this radio is how slick/stylish everything looks and works. The little subtle animations whenever you click a button or turn a dial give this radio a more expensive feel.
The whole menu system is also very intuitive compared to other radios I've messed with. The display on this is very easy to read and it gives you all the information you need, including the time. I'm also glad they let you select from nice "less is more" animations for the back ground of the display.
Installation is a relative breeze as the wire harness unplugs from the back of the head unit so you can attach it to your car harness adapter easily. I replaced and older Sony single disc player with this one and the installation took about 15 minutes because Sony hasn't change the wiring harness/head unit install cage. Good to know if you you are a Sony loyalist.
RCA outs are available for a Front amp, a rear amp, and a sub woofer amp.
If you are looking for a one stop solution for iPod control/connectivity with the expandability options for adding an amplifier or subs, or satellite radio, then look no further. This head unit does all those and does it very well.
Updated on Sep 10, 2008Another con is the search funtion with brings you back to the start of your artists/playlists every time you search again. I wish it would take you back to the last selection instead of making you start over again. Minor annoyance, but worth mentioning.
Updated on Sep 23, 2008Does not work with the 4th Generation Nanos (at least on the current iPod firmware 1.2)
I lost my iPod so I bought a new one, ended up taking it back and ordering a refirbished one from Apple.
