"Best medicine for a lengthy commute!"
Pros: Bright interface, most effective car iPod interface yet, ability to add XM or Sirius
Cons: Limited ******** (may be a plus); need to press small button to select rather than jog wheel
Summary: I have owned several car decks with an iPod interface (earlier Alpine model, Pioneer AVIC-D3) and have found that the iDA-X001 has the best iPod interface I have experienced so far. The scrolling through a long list of artists/albums is slightly slow, and the clickable jog wheel should be able to be clicked to select an item in the interface (it doesn't, you need you use a small ENTER button on the side), but otherwise this is an extremely effective interface for the car environment. The display is bright and has great resolution, which makes the iPod album art look wonderful. Instead of ablum art, you can also display the neat mechanical-looking clock/calender screen while your iPod is playing. Combined with the optional XM radio module, this Apline makes my long commute enjoyable. And best part about it, I don't have to mess around with CDs anymore. My 400 plus CD collection can now collect dust in my closet! A highly recommended head unit...
