"Great for $199 ebay; ++features than more costly models"4.0 starson by gem0502
Pros: Lifetime free traffic monitoring; 3D; bluetooth; easy to navigate menus if you are familiar with gps devices, if not, the menus could be confusing. The ability to make and receive phone calls and sms msgs through the R700 is a definate plus.
Cons: Fatal error displays in navigation mode if mini SD card not inserted (directions don't mention this); difficult to transfer files to the mini SD; no printed manual; no dashboard mount although the window mount works well.
Summary: This is my second gps as I have a MIO 310x and love it. Passing the MIO to my daughter and needed a replacement for me. Researched many models and the ASUS R700T provided the most features for the money. Used it locally for a few days and so far so good in a rural area which doesn't display 3D. Haven't checked the bluetooth yet but will post when I do. Checked the POI's against my MIO which is very comprehensive and found the ASUS to include more. Volume through the main speaker seems louder than the MIO and the ASUS also has the capability of piping sound through the radio via an FM transmitter...nice if needed. A few poi's I wanted locally weren't listed but the addresses were found when inputted. The satellite picks up quickly (again, rural area) unlike some reviews which indicate otherwise. I don't favor using the voice navigation but it is nice to have 4 to choose from. I have used the fast, economical, and shortest route calculations and have found all to be very accurate. The unit is quick to re-calculate if you go off course in comparison to the MIO which often wants you to u-turn where possible too long in my opinion. The screen size and touch capability is nice. I've used a Garmin and MIO and find this unit to boot up faster, acquire signal faster, calculate faster and have a more extensive POI database in addition to the bluetooth, 3D and free lifetime traffic monitoring. Very pleased so far.
