"Doesn't work, lousy customer service, avoid"
Pros: NONE - lousy product, lousy customer service
Cons: Unit kept homing on MN, I'm in NJ, battery lasts 20 min
Summary: The unit I got kept homing on MN, even after I "trained" it to be in NJ. The battery would go dead after 20 minutes. I sent it back. They recieved it 12/26/06. I have called them twice since then, and am told their facility in TX is repairing the unit (today is 1/24/2007). They told me the problem is the weather in TX. Yeah, right. I wonder if I will ever get a working unit. Avoid this company like the plague!Updated
I called again today 1/30/07. It appears that their repair facility is swamped because Averatec has no quality control.
They can't find my unit. They tell me they need the tracking number from my courier, they don't use their RMA numbers to track things internally. Huh? They also thought my RMA corresponded with an All In One computer. As Alice in Wonderland would have said "curioser and curioser."
I sent them a fax of the return reciept for insured merchandise mail. Now they tell me I shouldn't have shipped using USPS, only UPS, FedEx or DHL. They could have informed me of this at the outset.
Now I have to wait for customer service to get the repair facility to find who's dog ate their homework. I'll keep you posted if there is light at the end of the tunnel, and it isn't a train.Updated
Averatec can't find my GPS. They tell they are going to send a replacement, but they don't have one in stock. I was told they will call me next week to give me an ETA. Based on the way this is going maybe it will show up with a white rabbit on Easter.Updated
George Carlin would desribe "customer service" from Averatec as an oxymoron. Two months and two weeks and not a GPS in sight. They tell me they don't have any in stock to send to me either, and they have no clue as to when I will get this either. Who knows, maybe I'll get this for Christmas two years in a row.Updated
I found the name of Averatec's corporate officers through a Google search. I called their HQ and used their dial by name directory. I left a voice mail for the CEO, and spoke to their VP Sales. She was very courteous and seemed genuinely interested in my plight with their customer service. She put me in touch with a guy named Sean, who apparently is in charge of customer service, and he had a GPS unit shipped to me in the next couple of days... without instructions, without dashboard or window mounts, without car charger, without warranty card. They had asked me to return everything to them, which I did, but there was no quid pro quo when it came for them to return stuff to me. I called and Sean was quite apologetic, promised to get the rest of the stuff to me right away. I got another package, still no instructions or car mounts other than a plastic back plate that would be useful if I had something to mount it to. I may get lost while driving, but the customer service department at Averatec is clueless. I called Sean again and sent him an email as well, with no reply at all. Too bad they aren't publicly held, I would love to short their stock.Updated
Today I got an email from Sean pointing me to the manual that wasn't included with the replacement unit I got. Tonight I tried to get my unit going. Now I know why the manual wasn't there, because they didn't want me to know there was no software in it. I'll keep you posted if there is light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't a train.
