If you need to carry it around with you this is probably the best out there. The display is necessarily small with the inherant readability problems but useable if you have the time to stare at it a bit. Someone wrote earlier that it took 2 hours to download 8 meg of maps to it. My experience is that serial downloads are quite fast, a minute or two and therefore believe that he has a serial port problem.

"this is a lot of bang for the buck"

3 stars  | on by pmorris99

Pros

nice hand held unit. pretty easy to use. I've used it on the open ocean and was able to navigate back to port without any other aids

Cons

sort of eats batteries but that's easy to deal with

Summary

buy it. Good Device, pretty easy to use. Had it for several years but it still comes in handy

"easy to use but doesn't last long"

3 stars  | on by ca1982

Pros

This gps is on the verge of being perfect but..

Cons

a few of my friends including myself have this GPS and we have had them for 2-3 years. We all duck hunt and fish. The gps will not turn on even with new batteries. All of us have run into the same problem this year. This is the only flaw.

Summary

although this is supposed to be waterproof, if you are not getting this unit around water i will be perfect.
