"Great Product: It's a Garmin Afterall!"
on by EricSulserPros Light, Accurate and Slim
Cons None... so far
Summary It was time for an Upgrade from my old Garmin.
The 1490 LMT is a great unit, works fast and did not find any issues with it so far.
Picked it up at Walmart for 110$ Refurbished; could not go wrong. -
"Great product as long as you have the latest updates..."
on by bobnh2Pros Normally acquires satellites in seconds (unless I land half way across the country). Speed limits are correct 95% of the time. I almost always know about traffic problems before I get to them.
Cons I had to go in and delete foreign languages to free up space for map updates. Very easy to do. Google it.
Summary I've been very happy with this unit. I had problems initially (random restarts, wouldn't connect to computer), but system updates seem to have taken all of the bugs out and it has worked great over the last 10 months.

"The engineers didn't think this model through!"
on by windbitePros Lots of screen space. Thinner design.
Cons Maps can't be updated unless you install a micro-sd card & can navigate Garmin's labyrinth website; Garmin didn't consider map updating hard drive requirements with this unit! This model is much slower than my 4-year old model at locating satellites.
Summary I'm very disappointed with this unit! This unit is a demotion from my previous Garmin devices! With smartphones evolving and getting better, I do not see Garmin surviving the automotive GPS market unless they up their game and start producing quality products again! Also, the advertisements on the screen are a BIG distraction!
