  • "DO NOT BUY THIS GARMIN GPS or you will get BURNED!"
    on by Noakz

    Pros Nice lightweight unit

Cons LED cracks after two months of use, we send it back to be replaced and again, 2 months later the LED cracks again. They want us to pay $140 to fix it. Obvious design flaw and they are refusing to accept responsibility. I cannot be the only one.

Summary DO NOT BUY THIS GARMIN GPS! We bought this very expensive Garmin GPS at Best Buy 4 months ago. Within two (2) months the LED screen underneath the glass screen cracked and the unit was no longer usable. We did not drop it or do anything abnormal just one day it was cracked. We called in and sent it back and they replaced it no questions asked. When we got the replacement it worked again for about 2 months and then the same exact thing happened. The LED Screen cracked and it was unusable. When we called to get technical support they told us we cracked the screen and it was not covered. The first call they said we had pressed too hard on the screen. After arguing with them they agreed to take a look at it and we sent it in. They contacted us and told us it was not covered and would cost $140 to fix the LED screen. We called in again and then they told us that it had cracked because it had got too hot from sitting in the car and the heat had cracked the LED. We had not left the unit in the car and was always removed from the car and this was impossible to happen unless it got hot from driving in the car when using it. This is a CAR GPS and meant to be used in the car and if the heat in a car is going to damage it then there is a problem in the design. Garmin refused to fix the unit without us paying $140 to have it fixed. We are not paying another $140 for a device that we bought new for $400 just four (4) months ago and have followed the documentation to the letter on handling and storing the device.
DO NOT BUY THIS GARMIN GPS or you will get BURNED!
