"Great product in spite of shortcomings!"
Pros: Unbelievable detail, ability to find the nearest gas or lodging and provide phone numbers so you can check for room availability without getting off the highway.
Cons: Absurd price of map updates, given the high initial price already paid. The great beanbag mount needs a tackier underside for more grip.
Summary: I am impressed by the many capabilities of this product. Yes it can produce some less than optimum routings, and it will occasionally try to send you the wrong way on a one way street, or via a dead end street. However the positives far outweigh the negatives. The map updates amount to highway robbery (pun intended) When one pays $700 to $900 for a tool, the blades should not cost $150. As a result, I haven't upgraded for two years. Cut the cost by 90% and I'll upgrade every time. Provide a 5-year upgrade subscription for $150, and far more owners would "join". Instead the high cost generates ill will, and drives customers away.

How can companies like Garmin sell map updates for $150 when companies such as Delorme only charge $39.95?? The price updates are rediculous. Especially when the updates don't even correct problems that already exist on the maps. Maybe Garmin users need to flood the company with email demanding a lower map update price.

I feel the same about the ridiculous high cost of database upgrade, considering the profit margin on the hardware itself. I will not buy a piece of hardware for this amount of money and then be subjected to the rip off price of upgrade software.
