"Most people who have complaints with the StreetPilot don't know how to use GPS's!"
Pros: Good screen picture, Audio speaker is clear, and concise. Inputting an address is easy compared to how it used to be several years ago.
Cons: Road changes needs to be updated more frequently. But, this applies to ALL GPS's.
Summary: This machine in my opinion works just fine. I used it on cross country trip from Indiana to California and it worked just great. I read all the complaints about how bad it is. These are complaints from people who do NOT know how to use a GPS. Yes, it doesn't give you much warning to your turn point if you are driving 100mph. But, if you drive at normal speeds, the warning is more than adequate. That doesn't even come close to being a problem. Yes, this unit has an external speaker and is a ***** to hardwire. But, this is a PORTABLE UNIT!!! It is not meant to be hardwired into your car. If you want a permanent GPS, then go buy a permanent GPS! I had NO signal problems except in the middle of downtown San Francisco. The buildings are so tall and close together, you lose sight of your satellites. You will have that problem with any GPS. Get away from the tall towers, and it regains instantly. Yes, there will be map discrepancies and POI's not exactly where they should be, but that is NOT the fault of the GPS!! That is the fault of the people that report the exact position of these POI's. My only complaint would be that they need to update the maps more frequently when major roads/highways are changed. Highway construction is continuous throughout the US, and I don't know who is responsible for that, but they lag about 3 years or so. If there is a major change to a road or freeway, it takes about 3 yrs to get the maps updated. Not Garmins fault I think. It is the people who provide the data to them. Overall, this machine works GREAT! It will get you to your destination. The color display is excellent, the voice commands are clear, concise and excellent! I created my own speedtrap POI's in town, that works excellent! People that have problems, are generally people who never used GPS's before. Remember people, this is a machine and has limitations. The only reason I gave it a 9 was because of the maps not being updated more frequently. But over all, it is an exceptional unit, easy to use and works GREAT!
