"Good overall value..........."
Pros: Display was good. Maps compare well with other brands.
Cons: Fuel locations very lacking.................
Summary: I purchased my Lowrance iWay 250 at the Bass Pro Shop in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, just before coming home to NM. On sale there for 199$, it was a good price for an on-site purchase, I think. I got my money's worth. Although I know the way home, I wanted a unit that was inexpensive, relatively compact, yet readable, and detailed enuf' to find places of which I was unsure. The 25O did all that. Except.............
The software presently installed on the memory card does NOT do a good job of directing you to fuel stops! I drive a diesel pickup, and truck stops are my best bet for economical fuel purchases. TA, Loves, etc. The 250 software does not show any of those locations. I hope to get with the Lowrance folks to see if they offer an update, because mapping to those particular sites is important on my trips.
I have a number of GPS units, and have rented vehicles with both Garmin and Magellan automotive units installed. Of course, automotive units - espcially in this price range - are not going to give you the same features of the handheld GPS, but then again, they've usually a different purpose.
The Lowrance iWay250 compares well with the Garmin and Magellan automotive units I've experienced. The maps are detailed and the search features for addresses is exemplary. It found my home address and gave me a workable route from Broken Arrow right to my doorstep. I purposely took some different tracks, and it compensated nicely, directing me back to the correct route.
The options available are impressive. I like variety, and this unit gives you that at a very reasonable price, considering the product.
I recommend the Lowrance iWay 250, but the Lowrance folks need to provide an update for fuel locations.........
