"Does what it's supposed to, navigate w/o the extras"

by Karyzma on December 7, 2007

Pros: Announce street names, traffic kit included w/3 mths free, AAA feature & extended warranty.

    Cons: Sometimes freezes on startup

Summary: This is the first gps that I've purchased, but I have borrowed other models & brands from friends/family. I spent time researching online & my only real requirement was one that announces street names. (I've had no problem understanding the lady's voice, no mispronounced streets or towns so far.) I also wanted one that navigates without the extras...mp3 player (already have one), picture & video viewer (got one of those too), etc. I like the AAA feature. It lists AAA car repair shops as well as hotels, restaurants, events, etc. If you're a member you also get 1 yr added to your warranty when you register the gps (you'll need to call AAA w/your member # to get your promo code). This unit includes the traffic kit built-in with a 3 month free subscription. You don't have to pay extra for the kit (Garmin's is $99) & there's no antenna that needs to be attached to the windshield either. The car charger has it already built in. A few other pluses: It acquires a sattelite connection quickly & has a fast reroute/recalculate feature too. Also has bluetooth & voice recognition but haven't tried them out yet. The windshield mount is sturdy & easy to use. FYI: The gps is bundled with a car charger; every online description I saw didn't mention that. You have to buy the AC charger & carry bag separately. The only negative I've found is that it freezes up on startup once in a while. Just turn off & on again. I'd also recommend buying this online where it's way cheaper w/free shipping.
