"1st GPS. Seems pretty easy to use but we'll see." on by NancyT2u
Pros: 1. Reasonable price
2. Easily understood voice
3. Large, easy to read display
4. Light and easy to carry
4. Ease of programmingCons: 1. Instruction manual is not terribly helpful. Took me a long time to figure stuff out since this is my first GPS. Still haven't figured out how it works when it is connected to computer.
2. Have to buy traffic cord for "free" reports. ($50-80)Summary: OJT taught me most of what I have figured out. This is not a hard unit to work. Just frustrating for a first time unit. After fooling with it for an hour or so, I have mostly figured out how it works. I will let you modify routes so you can take side trips and this was my most difficult discovery. I like it inspite of the lack of clear instructions. It has extra features I will probably not use, music and video, but is still entry level priced. Will definately recomment to others if you have solid basic computer skills. Not too hard to figure out.

"Works great!! Premium Features at an entry level price!" on by john21082
Pros: Fast satellite acquisition, Text-To-Speech - says road names, Has AAA Tourbook POIs/Ratings, Large 4.3" screen, One-touch menu,
Lane Guidance - Tells you which lane to be in on the highway prior to your exit,
Ucoming highway exit POI preview.Cons: Nothing. This unit simply works and works well!
Summary: Cost-atio-to-features simply makes this GPS a premeir unit at an entry-level cost!
Simply Works Great!!! I've not had any problems and the unit has always given the correct directions.
This GPS has everything you need for navigation. It does not have all the bells and whistles that most people probably don't need, such as blue-tooth, MP3 player, JPEG picture viewer, etc. But it has ALL you need to get you to your destination! -
"Absolutely fantastic purchase!" on by shtonton
Pros: -Highway lane assistant is fantastically helpful
-Nice large screen (and at a very good price for the size
-POI features work great and have a lot of need options
-much easier to navigate the menus then with others ive tried
-work al around fantasticCons: - Slightly expensive (not not for the features)
- Some menu items are overly simplistic (which makes it more complicated in the end)Summary: A great unit which is jam packed with useful features for the price you will pay for it. The Large screen makes navigation very simple and the heads up are at very smart timings. I would recommend this to anyone looking to spend money on a quality unit.

"Almost perfect" on by Doug370
Pros: The pros of this unit has to be the features (usually found on higher end units) available at such a reasonable price. Try finding text-to-speech (spoken street names), memory slot, AND lane change assist on a unit that retails for less than $200.
Cons: I have seen some people give this unit a low rating because of a "dim screen". The issue is not the brightness. The real issue is Magellan's choice of daytime display colors that do get a bit washed out in direct sunlight. Only a minor issue for me.
Summary: Great gps, with high-end features, at a very reasonable price.
Highlights:
Bright and very sharp display
Fast processing
High end feature on a reasonably priced unit

"My first GPS--not a bad choice" on by aila49
Pros: Audio for turns at 2 miles and 1/2 mile. Choice of fastest or shortest route. Fun to watch the miles or ETA tick down. Choice of elevation, driving speed, direction, ETA, time left.
Cons: Not updated on rural roads. Uses only AAA, which for me gives poor directions. Poor battery life. Don't know how they compute time of arrival, always longer than what I know the route to be. Update not downloadable for me.
Summary: I have had mine for two weeks. As a travel nurse, I travel all over the country on new assignments. So far, I have only used it for amusement while waiting for my next assignment. I compute distance between my home and my daughter's. We are both rural settings, with her home street not listed on my RoadMate. It shows my home address half-way down the street on right side rather than left. My actual physical location (one-way street) is last house on left side of street.
I am looking forward to trying in "big city" that I am not familiar with, while trying out shortcuts and highways. I do wish it would show active contruction, but that is my pipe dream.
All in all, I am pleased with my RoadMate and the price I paid for it. I keep it charged while driving, using the car charger supplied with the package. It is also interchangeble with my cell phone AC charger. Another plus for me.
