  • "got most stuffl or option available except .. 5 year old maps"
    on by dvettman3

Pros all options made today or options for purchase

Cons Can't update the 4-7 year old maps

Summary My first GPS . Much research done and used a Infinity G35 coupe Utah to New York GPS built in as my only experience.
Within 1-2 years GPS will be as auto radios in vehicles.. With all realtime services pay by subscription fees..

The PC tool kit won't load .. because it fails the XP Windows compatibility check..
I'm working on that now.. My first attempt for Magellan support will begin now

My unit was newegg.com refurb 275.00 w/ $50 mail in rebate if it ever shows up.

  • "Great Unit Does Everything Relatively Well"
    on by pzeitlin

Pros Quick Route Making, A lot of Features

    Cons POI Database smaller

Summary I got the unit two days ago and have only travelled routes I know, which is a great way to test a unit. It locks onto the satellites fast and route development is extremely quick.

So far, the routes seem pretty good and close to what I would take. I recognize that algorhythms can't be perfect. The sluggishness that CNET complains about isn't a problem. Also, my version (from COSTCO) does include an AC adapter.

Points of interest, the only weakness, is not bad - just not great. In one community, it found the Pizza Hut, Chinese Restaurant, Gas Station, Grocery Store, and another Pizza Place. It missed other restaurants. But, it did seem to find the 'hot spots'.

Navigation is great, I could care less about music and photos. CNET is correct, the graphics/GUI won't wow you - but so what.

I reviewed soo many GPS - but to get 1.5M POI's, Text-to-Speach, NAVTEQ Maps, SIRF and WAAS capability, as well as optional Traffic - you can't beat the price.

  • "looses reception often, confusing directions hard to read screen"
    on by andreipop

    Pros text to speach, thin

Cons Poor reception, confusing directions, hard to read screen, endless menus

Summary 1. Reception is often lost and device start endless recalculations when it gains reception again.
    2. When starting from an off-road area (even small parking lots) device only provides directions a few minutes after having started to drive down the road - often times leading to unnecessary U turns.
    3. Route to be traveled is a light pink - which is very close to the peach color the device assigns to some roads - making it impossible to discern the two.
    4. To make even basic changes you need to go through endless menus

  • "Great Product"
    on by samm8865

    Pros Fast and accurate

Cons POI are not as complete as should be

Summary I bougth this from costco for $250. And been using it for a month. I can't be happier with my purchase, one thing that I like the most about it is that it tells the name of the streets that it wants me to turn into and makes a sound just before the turn, pointing out that the turn should happen here. I have tried it in NYC and New Jersey and it has taken me door to door even if the address was in one of these gated communities.
And it has always been very accurate. A few time it did shutdown in the middle of operation but after I turned it on again it just continued to direct me.
Also if you make a wrong turn it does the re-routing very very quickly.
The only thing that could be imporved is the POI database.
I am sure there are better GPS systems out there, and this unit is not perfect but for the price and the quality I am really happy with this. And do recommend it to everyone. I am thinking of gettting one for me mom too.

  • "I'm really satisfied with the overall performance of the 2200T"
    on by Meryl Wamhoff

Pros Very portable, bright, good sound

Cons Worst operating manual I've ever tried to use. Without the Tech Support things would be back to the hunt and peck method

Summary Holding the 2200T in a usable position in a vehicle is tricky at best and the suction cup option provided is destined to fail on the first really hot day. Fortunately the unit picks up the satalite signals if the unit is under the dash.
