Pros: So far so good, after getting a new Magellan 700

    Cons: GPSEXPLORE.COM customer service strinks

Summary: I have been waiting for about 5 years to get a product that does something like this... the moment I got it, I was so happy... Something that I work hard for you know? Anyway, I ordered my Magellan 700 from GPSexplore.com.... The shipping was great (that was about the only thing great), I received it in the mail the next day.... However when I hooked the unit up to my car.... it shut off on me after a min or 2...First, I assumed I hooked it up wrong? but after reading the instructions serevel times, I knew it wasn?t my fault at all? I called GPSexplore? WAS ON HOLD FOR ABOUT 40-50mins? and they told me to call Magellan? (they could of said that in the recording). When I called Magellan (on hold for about 15-20min, they told me that it maybe you have a bad cradle?they send me a new one, which took about a week to get to me? When I received the new cradle in the mail I was so excited?. However, once again the Magellan started to shut off on me after a min or 2? I was getting so upset being that I paid 1,000 plus for this unit with a 150 rebate? I called GPSexplore up?. (on hold for about 30-40mins, getting better) and told them that I want a new unit send to me ASAP? do you believe they told me to go on the internet and fill out a return slip, which then will send me an e-mail within 2 business days with an RAN#?. I did that before I even called them, and guess what? No e-mail was ever send to my address? I became a pain to them so much, that I knew the names of 3 employees there? just by hearing their voices when they picked up the phone?.I send the bad unit back which cost me $24.00 to do so, I asked GPSexplore if they could reimburse me, and they say no? now I already spend 1000 plus on the unit? now add 24.00, that is just not right at all. Finally when I was able to get a new product, took about 3 weeks total of purchasing the defected one?. For the record as of today which is 3/19/05 the new product is working great? however GPSexplore didn?t send me the DC cable so that I can program the Magellan in my home:( I called Magellan up and they are sending me one now? free of charge? IF I WERE YOU, I would buy something that is in the price range over the internet just because it saves you a buck or even 100... the next time I am going to go into a store like BESTBUY, or CIRCUTCITY...because if I would of went there, I would of had a new one the very next day... or even the same day depending on when I got it..... Thanks for reading, will write more.... once I really use the product big time...

For the user that said I am not a smart buying, if you had read my review, I said I will be writing more later.

Ok here is the deal, I have had the magellan now for about 5 months. It has been great in some areas of NYC, not so great in Jersey at all. I almost lost my mind following the directions coming from New Jersey back into the NYC area.

Also the POI is really bad, there were times it took me to the area of the POI, however, the POI is about a half a mile down the road.... Now everyone knows these devices are very expensive, I was expecting DOOR to DOOR service for all ********. Now don't get me wrong, there are some places I have gone, and it gets me 100% there.

The funny thing about it, now there is a newer model out that speaks the street names, I guess that is life when you are in the computer world. :)

I buy lots of "stuff" on the internet and always use a credit card. Your Credit Card Company is your warranty so, pick a good card company. My credit card carrier will give me back the money on any product that I have made a reasonable efforts to work with. Call your credit card company, if they are not on your side, find a new one. With the problems you have had I am surprised you gave this product a 2.3 rating. You opinion was good enough for me to look else where, with the seller you expect this, not with the mfg.

This guy: he gives the PRODUCT a bad rating, then proceeds to explain that it was really HIS mistake in where/how he bought this unit. Very immature way to rate a product. If he'd gone to Costco for example, he would have paid $780 and gotten the product immediately, with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

-The cantilever type of design for the windshield mount amplifies the number of G?s the unit sees during driving; especially, on the rough roads.
-Considering the weight of the unit, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on the cradle, which is in between the windshield mount and the unit.
-This pressure can easily crack the cradle every now & then.
-With some difficulty, Thales has replaced my cradle. Next time, my cradle cracks, I may prefer to go to the Circuit City and get the whole unit replaced as I have paid for 4 or 5 years of service contract.
-Thales says that the design is good & there is no problem with the cracking of the cradles.
-I guess, maybe you & I are the only ones with this problem!

I too bought the Megellan however mine was the 500+. Exactly the same problem. I think it must be with the units.
