"Great Hardware....No Upgrades To Flawed Software"
Pros: This machine does a great job of accurately locating you; but the maps and the routing are often in error.....though it does work fairly well about 90% of the time.
Cons: The problem is that when it messes up it really becomes useless. I've had this over a year now and they STILL don't have an upgrade/fix. When I emailed to complain all I get is an invitation to keep checking back at their site.
Summary: Yes, this Nextar unit is cheaper than the competition; but they don't support the product so buying this is (was for me) penny wise and pound foolish.
Nobody makes perfect sofware the first time out, not being willing to promptly improve/correct flawed products is a sign of incompetence *at best*.
All it takes is a few instances of the thing directing you wrongly, into dead ends or to make illegal turns to realize that you need to take all of the "directions" with many "grains of salt".
It's a shame that so many companies are only concerned about making the original sale and don't "get" that treating the customer right AFTER they get your money is the key to their own long term profitability.
I suggest you buy this *only* as a pro forma "gift" for someone you dislike.
