Pros Style is nice. GPS speed of picking up signals is fair. Screen is fair. Offers nice function. GPS works well.
Cons Functions do not work and/or do not work well. Video playback DOES NOT WORK. Bluetooth speaker sound is very poor. FM transmitter no good. Not user-friendly like other GPS (like Garmin). NO UPDATES, DOWNLOADS, OR DECENT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AVAILABLE.
Summary I have a Garmin GPS and just recently purchased the Sanyo 4370. They are worlds apart. The Garmin was easy to use, all functions worked well and lots of dowloads were available on-line (including updates).
I was very excited to come across the Sanyo 4370. The functions were amazing...video playback, bluetooth, video-in, and mp3. After receiving the GPS, I put it to the test. Video playback would not play ANY of my mpeg4 videos. The instruction manual says it support mpeg4 files but only plays some. I couldn't find any. Bluetooth connected but the person on the other end of my trial call could not hear me well at all. Playing mp3 files was awkward and required too much user effort. There is no real benefit to this function...maybe with an easier interface it would have been useful. The video line-in and the actual GPS system itself are the only functions that work relatively well. The GPS interface could be a lot more user friendly. MY ADVICE IS TO BUY A GARMIN AND STAY AWAY FROM SANYO!!
Pros I have the virtualy identical NVM-4070, it is feature packed. I bought this for my wife and it was a real asset when we moved to a different state. I just pluged in the doctor's office, Walmart, Target, and our new home location.
Cons NO UPDATES. Even on the 4370 maps are from 2007 and I am running into road changes that are not in the Sanyo 4070. I tried an update but the Sanyo 4070 website "http://www.easystreetnav.com/" has no links for any updates or even support of any kind.
Summary After looking hard in the manual that refers to an Update CD and the Sanyo http://www.easystreetnav.com/ website to no avail I called the number on the front of the manual. After being told about six times (NO JOKE) in a recording to check one of the websites I just spent considerable time looking at I got a representative that just bluntly told me that there is no Update CD and that Sanyo does not plan on ever releasing one.
WHAT?????????????? In December 2007 I paid hundreds of dollars for this thing and now I find out they never planed to support it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this sounds just crazy that a company can just so blatantly stick it to their customers but it is true. See for yourself,
call Sanyo Customer Service at (800) 421-5013. Remember MD# NVM-4070, the same is true for NVM-4050. Beware, they'll tell you that you can get their new model NVM-4370 that can be updated. But guess what. It has the same 2007 maps as the NVM-4070 and "THERE IS NO PLAN FOR AN UPDATE".
Until SANYO pulls its' head out of their fourth point of contact for the referenced customer support issue the brand SANYO must be avoided period. If they can do this for a (at the time $400+ NAV Unit) how are they gong to treat you concerning your $200 phone.
Pros great feature set
PRICE($108 on sale at Frys)
Cons Froze up after about a week
My buddies froze up in a couple of days
We returned them to Frys, they had stack of them in return section.
Summary when it works it is a nice unit with very easy to use nav, even my mom figured it out.
But it is not very reliable.
Pros Simple to use
Cons Does not connect quickly to GPS. Have been on roads for several minutes with still no connection.
Summary NOT Re-Pete Not worth it.
Pros Nice looking and price! It's like buying a car does not start or run.
Cons None.... (1) Makes me go in circles, try to drive off the bridge (make a left while on the middle of the over 2 mile long bridge) (2) Does not allow or find 70+ year old address that i can look-up on Google and get best directions.
Summary Sanyo does not care of their customers if that's how they want to make money then we the consumers need to get together and fight with those companies so that our future generation don't have to deal with lousy products and keep wasting money over and over again for same-things. Lets fight these rip-off corporate profit reporting companies by not giving more money and buying more products. They must check, test and understand the importance of reliability and support before selling any product in market or must stamp "disposable when problem appears"
