Summary How can this top of the line unit not perform the most basic task required of a Bluetooth enabled GPS device - namely turning itself on when the ignition is turned on and clearing the legal warning. You must hold the power switch down for a 4-count, wait for the unit to boot up, and press the Done button to clear the legal warning every single time you start your car. This makes the unit completely useless as a hands free phone device, as you'll quickly get tired of this and not bother to turn it on unless you're specifically intending to navigate with it. This also significantly diminishes the overall usefulness of the unit since you won't get traffic warnings, or have the map handy to refer to should you need to make a detour or check your location. It also makes the unit less safe to operate as you'll find yourself fumbling through this start up process while you're driving should you need to use it on the fly.
I also find the search process to be much more cumbersome than my Garmin unit. It seems to me that it requires more steps than the Garmin to run a search. With my Garmin I could enter an address and street name, or the name of a POI and set it to work. It would then pull up a list of search results starting with the one nearest me. Whether down the street, or in another city. When searching for a POI with the GO2505 I need to first tell it whether I am searching for a location near me or a location in another city. ( Really???). I also had issues with it showing me results near my home, even though I was across the country in Vegas at the time. (I'm sure this had more to do with me getting used to the unit, but was still annoying nonetheless .)
Another big deficiency vs the Garmin is in the way it shows you your search results. Unlike the Garmin it doesn't show you the relative direction of your search results. Sure it shows me which McDonalds is closest to me, but it doesn't tell me if it's in the direction I'm traveling or if it's behind me. Also unlike the Garmin, when it shows you a map of your destination you cant scroll the map or zoom it to check if it's indeed the location you want to go to before you confirm it.
the suction mount keeps losing it's grip on the same disk as my Garmin was attached to - it just seems to heavy.
The unit has just shut off by itself without warning a few times while navigating - it turns back on without fiddling with the power cable, and it doesn't give a "power disconnected" or "low battery" warning before going dark, so I assume it's not simply a loose connection.
Annoying peculiarities with the display - "next exit" and "traveling on" text is too small and undefined...default information displayed is lacking.
All in all this unit is very disappointing. I'll miss the responsiveness of the glass touch screen, but I'm switching back to Garmin. This $260 unit can't do the most basic of things that my $120 Garmin can.

Cons . Can't figure how to stop legal notice from popping up on boot up. Not all features are available yet like downloading POIs, . Start instructions were a little fuzzy for a guy who never reads manuals until after I am familiar with the unit !!
Summary Wonderful unit and really the cons were a stretch to come up with !The back arrow is a refresh button on the lower left corner of the screen.

The new maps over write the old maps .
The voice commands are listed on the main menu under help. A complete list !
$300 for this device is a steal. Love it ! Yes some day you will replace it as any other electronic device but not due to lack of storage .
Pros IQ Routs is really the only thing I like about it.
Cons No Life Time Map Updates. Software is not working to update your device.
Summary I have purchased the tom tom go 2505 and it came with life time Map updates and which I'm sure were included in the price of the unit, that's why I feel some sort of composition, I feel mislead by Tom Tom and have lost all respect for the company, I'm on my 3rd unit from Tom Tom the problem with the last one is I never got the gas price updates that I paid for that account is under firstname.lastname@example.org I have not received any updates from tom tom since I purchased the unit back April. Furthermore the whole reason for me buying this product was for the life time Map Updates. I was told by a supervisor at Tom Tom that I would receive my Map Updates on the 3rd of June here it is the 3rd and still have not received any updates from Tom Tom, they acknowledged that my Map was out of date and needed to be updated, and told me they were having problems with the Tom Tom Software, then I get an e-mail from Patrick telling me Tom Tom does not have a release date for the outdated Map? Can someone please give the correct information, I would have to believe that this fallows under the category of false advertisement because of my reasoning for purchasing the product was specifically for the Life Tim Map Updates which I'm not receiving. And I'm sure many others were under the same assumptions when buying the Go 2505 they wouldn't have any problems getting there Life Tim Map Updates.
