Manufacturer description
The new TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION is the answer for drivers who want a portable navigation device that is easy to use, has the latest maps and technologies and is affordable. The new TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION combines ease of use, portability, TomTom's patented touch screen technology and award winning software. It also features a sleek lightweight design and is ultra compact so that users can easily carry it to and from their cars. The improved user interface provides options for customizing the navigation screen, provides easier access to overall functionality and quicker search tools. Unique TomTom Map Share technology and most accurate maps Just as users of the recently launched new TomTom GO range, users of the new TomTom ONE 3rd EDITION can easily and instantly improve their own maps with TomTom Map Share. TomTom Map Share is a proprietary map improvement technology unique to TomTom, which enables users to respond in real time to changes in the road network and correct the maps on their TomTom devices accordingly. Thanks to the smart user interface, it is easy to make improvements, such as to mark blocked or unblocked streets, reverse one-way traffic or insert new street names, which will instantly take effect. Roads are continually changing. This feature gives TomTom users the option to capture these changes on their devices in-between map releases and keep their data as current as they wish. These changes allow the community of TomTom Map Share users to always have the most up-to-date maps and inside local knowledge at their fingertips. TomTom has the world's largest satellite navigation community with more than 10 million users. TomTom Map Share users can share their improvements with each other easily through TomTom HOME, TomTom's free software application that enables users to manage, download, store and transfer content from their computer (PC/MAC) onto their TomTom device. When it comes to sharing improvements, users can choose between downloading all reported map improvements or only accepting map improvements verified by a TomTom team of experts to guarantee timeliness and validity. The new TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION quickly recalculates the route of the driver, in case he wants to deviate from it or a roadblock occurs. The 'Find Alternative' option adds maximum flexibility for the driver in planning his route. Also, current street names can be displayed while traveling. The recently launched new TomTom GO range and the new TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION come with uniquely designed safety features so drivers always have direct access to extensive safety and roadside assistance information wherever they go. The extensive "Help Me!" menu includes information such as the way to the nearest hospital, car maintenance information and first aid instructions. The safety option screen is fully customizable allowing users to set warnings for speed, traffic, restricted zones, schools, and more. With the new TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION, drivers can choose from a host of smart extras, making sure the destination is reached in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Drivers now can have easy access to traffic information with the optional RDS-TMC traffic antenna accessory. Also, a number of personalization options, such as warnings, special navigation voices, POIs and more can be downloaded via TomTom HOME.User opinions

Sucks! Never getting a tom tom again!
Pros: Nothing beneficial that i got from it.
Cons: Takes an extremely long time to put in address, scratched up within the 1st 2 month we had it, has gotten me lost numerous times.

Poor Quality-
Pros: Easy to read
Cons: Not dependable. Sometimes it takes 10-20 minutes to get GPS signal. It also freezes frequently. Just stopped working totally yesterday. Only had 19 months. This is my second TomTom navigation system. The first system lasted 2 years.

Not real happy
Pros: I thought it was easy to use.
Cons: I too had trouble with addresses. It tells me I live at the end of my street. I also was using it to look for properties for sale. I had one address that was on a Loop. It took me to the wrong end of the Loop.

Love it / Hate it
Pros: Great product at a great price. Routes and maps are accurate, mapshare keeps them that way. Recalculate is fast; instructions are clear.
Cons: Unit locks up, and cannot find GPS. Not all the time, but definitely the days you need to count on it. 7 service calls and 2 RMAs in the first year.

Ain't too bad. Well worth the low price.
Pros: Does well enough to navigate you to most locations. Great time - distance calculations. Better than a map any old day. POI (point of interest) is good enough for me.
Cons: I downloaded some of the voices and other interesting options, but this caused me great problems. I deleted these items and I'm good now. For anyone not interested in the RDS - TMS option, purchase the Tomtom One 125 and save yourself a few bucks.

The best, and the easiest to use. awsome product.
Pros: Easy to use, really like the unit letting me know by speech where to turn, day and night screens different voices, excellent price, everyone should own this product.
Cons: Little better information in the owners manual, but you can go to the website if you have the internet. Other then that nothing else.

This product was great, while it worked
Pros: Easy to use, clear screen and voice directions.
Cons: It just kicked off one day (during a long trip to the Smoky Mts. Thank God we had an atlas) I've been unable to turn it on since. I've ensured it was charged, I've attempted the reset. Nothing works. I also had no luck with technical support.

The maps are NOT up-to-date. Some roads that should definitely be on there are not, and none of the newer roads (1 year or so old) are on the maps. Also, the "time to destination" calculation is way off.

Excellent Basic Nav Unit,
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Expansive Map Updates $79+++
Map updates must be where they make their money. $79 for a US map update seems very high when you can just go out and buy another Magellin/Garmin/TomTom in a year or so and get current maps.
All-in-All a good choice.

Good basic unit
Pros: Solid performance for routing and re-routing, which is why we buy these things. Free new map update within 30 days of purchase. Mapshare feature. On-line community POI data bases.
Cons: No text-to-speach, interface isn't optimized for me, newer version is now on the market (the One 130s, which has text-to-speach).
The unit is just a basic system, doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some of the other more expensive systems have, but it gets the job done. One thing that it lacks that most people will want is the text-to-speach feature, which the newer version does have (the One 130s), which is only about $50 more, well worth it. My unit just tells you when to turn and gives you a text display of the street name. It works well enough for me. The newer 130s unit will actually say the name of the street you must turn on, eliminating the need for you to take your eyes off the road. The Megellan had a "ding" sound just about the time you needed to turn, which was nice, and I actually really miss that little feature.
Another huge advantage of the newer unit (130s) is that it's mount is built into the unit and folds up, so you can take the unit and mount down and easily slip both into your pocket, or whatever little hiding place you have in your car. With my unit, you have to take the mount off the unit (cause it's too bulky to hide or put in my pocket with the mount still attached), and reattach it every time you want to use the unit again. This is probably the biggest pain when using a gps unit, but after having my car broken into for a gps unit in the past (and only the mount was visiable, but they figured the gps unit was hiden in my car, and they were right), I always remove my mount and unit from the car at night.
Some of the best features of the One 3rd edition is the on-line support. After you buy your TomTom, you can just hook your unit up to your computer and follow the directions and it will update your unit with the newest maps. You get up to 30 days from purchase to do this, I recommend waiting till near the end of the 30 days to update. I updated mine the first night, it's been about 25 days now, a new map version was just released, but because I already updated it I can't get the new one. I still have a newer map than most people currently buying gps systems today though, my map is only 3 months old, when a lot of the units being sold are a year or more out-of-date.
Also, with the on-line support you get map corrections which other users have shared (and you can to if you choose to, simply by correcting the map on the unit which is pretty simple, and hooking up to your computer). This keeps even a slightly out of date map very useable, but I think this feature is only active for one year after purchase, so make sure to update it prior to the end of the year. With the free 30-day map update and the mapshare corrections, you could probably go about 2 years without noticing any mapping issues. And with the cost of these GPS devices dropping like they are, you could just buy a new unit at that time for just a little over what a new map would cost you anyway.
There is also a huge amount of points of interest (POIs) data bases out there to download into TomTom devices. It comes with plenty already loaded into it, so you should have no problem finding a gas station or place to eat, but it's also very customizable. So if you want to know where all the Starbucks (or Walmart/Target/Safeway/ect.) in the US are (or at least a large portion of them), you can easily download this information into your unit and always find a place to get your morning coffee.
Overall, this unit is better than the other entry-level system I have used. I'm happy with my purchase and it does everything that it claims. If you're looking for a basic gps device, this will do everything you could want. However, the newer 130s is only about $50 more expensive and adds text-to-speach and a few other nice features. Another solid unit I've heard a lot about during my research would be the Garmin Nuvi 200. If you can get the One 3rd edition for a good price and don't care about text-to-speach, it's a great buy. You'll feel confident driving anywhere.

BEST GPS FOR THE PRICE RANGE !
Pros: EASY TO USE, ACCURATE, FREE MAP UPDATES, GREAT PRICE !
Cons: NO TEXT TO SPEECH, BUT GREAT VOICE INTSTRUCTIONS !
I literally plugged it in at the store and typed in my home address and it gave me 5 perfect/accurate options to get me there.
I have tested it several times by missing turns on purpose and it quickly calculated a route to get me back on track.
The map is up tp date in most respects but I have found one NEW road in my city that was not on it. But, it was an easy fix as TomTom allows you to add these corrections and share them online via free map updates and WAHLAH.. it's now on their.
I would give the TomTom One (3rd edition) a 10 instead of a 9 except for the lack of text to voice but in all honesty I think thats more vanity on my part than anything else! Especially at the $150 price range. (so maybe I should have given it a 10! I think I'll go back and change that right now!
I purchased my TomTom 3RD Edition a few months back.
In general I very happy with it "except for the no text to speech" which I guess is a little much to ask for a $149.00 GPS.
Pros: Fast at obtaining a signal and rerouting, TomTom has just recently come out with a NEW map for this unit for $99.99...Duh, I only paid $149 for the entire unit so this is a bit crazy if you ask me! BUT, You do get map share (a free download as often as you like)for free from TomTom for a year. And, after doing a bit of investigating I found out that the Quote New Map is based on users (like you and me) who have made corrections and uploaded them to the website. So, in reality we have the "NEW" MAP FOR FREE!!!
CONS: As usual with most GPS's out there sometimes it sends you some crazy ways but you do eventually get there ...LOL. What I have found though is to try several of the TomTom's many routing options and you will find one that is more direct and correct. I have also noticed that most of it's crazy directions are because of out of date maps, so if you'll just make corrections and upload them for the rest of us we will all get better directions!

Cons: Tom Tom Home Page can be slightly frustrating to navigate.

fraudulent advertising
Pros: lowcost when on sale
Cons: TomTom incompetent company
Purchased the TomTom One 3rd edition at Christmas with the explicit requirement of using it on our trip to Europe. Attempted multiple times to download the western European map. Informed their website was down and to try again in 4-months closer to our departure date.
I mentioned my desire for immediate download was the limited time sale of January 31.
No to worry you’re eligibility for the discounted price will be dutifully recorded in your incident report. Try again in 4-months.
Never heard of that before! Here a customer wanting to give a company money but is prevented from doing so because their website is scheduled to be down for over a month.
Well only in jolly old England I guess.
You can imagine my surprise when I phoned same special service number only to be informed the sale is no longer in effect and there is not recorded of my promissory note. (Mike, supervisor)
However there is record of my 4 failed attempts of downloading the map and 3 incident reports.
To advertise a product and not make it available is considered fraudulent.
If TomTom wasn’t willing to honour the sale price they should have made that clear on my first inquiry.
So much for good will.

DOn't believe all the negative reviews
Pros: Great at navigating you to whereever you need to go. Easy to update.
Cons: Not up to date right out of the box but then again what is these days?
When I first got home and took it out of the box I asked it to navigate me to downtown Toronto for a trip I was about to make. The first set of directions took me out of my way to get to the 401. So I hooked the TOMTOM up to my pc and downloaded all the newest updates. Next I asked it to do the same trip and it did so with no out of the way directions.
Next I asked it to navigate me to me work. Lets face it the true test to one of these devices is to navigate me in the area that I know best. Now the route it took me to work did use one road that I would never use but I would say 95% of the route is the same one that I use everyday. Not bad.
As for the road that I would never take it isn't one that is unsafe, or anything like that it's just one that has many stoplights and traffic. I figured that it still did an awesome job of getting me to a place I know.
I think the number one thing you have to do with it is update it so that it can do its job. It navigated me all the way to the Metro Convention Centre without a hiccup.
I looked all over the web and did read a lot of positive and negative reviews about the TOMTOM. Mostly the people talked about the wrong directions it gave and the fact that the maps were out of date.
Well lets face it no matter how up to date a "map" is there are always going to be changes. What mostly do not change are the major roadways and intersections. You can get to close to where you need to if the area is new.
Even if you do make a mistake and turn before you are supposed to it will quickly recalculate and give you a new set of directions. There are so many POI's that anything you need to find you will have no problems doing so.
Give this a try you will not be disappointed.

Overall Good GPS For The Money
Pros: Great price. Out of the box the only POI's are the Hospital, Police and other emergency service. Once you go on line and update maps, etc then all the normal POI's are downloaded ie restaurants, etc
Cons: Does some stupid routing, Not really bright sometimes. Fast routing doesn't always take the fastest route.
The GPS receiver is very sensative, it picks up to 7 satellites when I am in my house which has cinder block walls.
Make sure you have a general idea of which way you need to go, don't use this unit with blind faith! You need to use common sense on which roads to take, and the GPS will then finish the trip and home in on locating the trip destination end point.

Great buy! simplicity at it's best
Pros: Just Gps, no unneeded junk
Cons: A sd card slot would be a nice addition.
I live in Rome Ga. , the nw part of the state and recently hd to drive to Jacksonville al. Even with the remoteness of the area and not much in the way of city like poi's the unit was surprisingly accurate both with it's directions and map's showing all streets in the area. The only thing I would like to see added on this unit is a sd slot to have the ability to add poi's away from the home pc.
Would and have bought gain, got one for parents.

Great GPS. No identity crisis.
Pros: Does GPS and does it well. Simple. Affordable. Easy to use.
Cons: I just wish it was a bit skinnier, so it would fit nicely in my pocket.
While other GPS units get raving reviews for having integrated MP3 players or picture slideshow viewer, they fail miserably at doing what they're supposed to do! This unit concentrates on being a good GPS unit. Points-of-Interest are great, and traffic via TMC is a godsend in Germany. Those Gramin Nuvi's with their MP3 playback can keep it. I'll take my boring TomTom One (3rd Edition) any day.
I just remembered. My only other gripe about this is the lac of a Mac version o the TomTom HOME software version 2.x. COME ON TomTom! This isn't a Windows-only world!

Great buy in a GPS
Pros: Alot of GPS for the money
Cons: Doesnt't have alot of non-gps extras (is that a con?)
The TomTom fit the bill, having all the features for a GPS except speech to text, and a sd slot.
The set up was fast and easy, though I would recommend that you start off by logging your unit on to TomTom's site through your computer. It will update the software, and give you few other options as well.
The signal acquisition was quick. It was also very easy to put in a destination, and start driving. It offers an alternate route feature. When I pushed this on my way from Nashville to Memphis it immediately changed the route from interstate to non-interstate.
It has several options on routes, including non-toll roads. You can also route through certain way points, or via certain points under the Prepare your route option. It is a slightly different process, but is also quick and easy. You have an array of GPS options and display options (such as 2-d, 3-d,excessive speed warnings, poi display and notice to mention a few), to suit your preferences. It also offers several emergency options.
You are given an option in the first 30 days to update to the most recent map for free, provided the map on your unit isn't the most recent. Having used GPS for a number of years, maps are the issue. Some units have maps with a one or two year old release, so be sure to determine how old the map is before you buy a unit.
I have about 12 trips on this unit, several to backroad out-of-the-way places. In each instance, it got me there in the way I would have normally gone. It even told me which way I should turn for cars in a rest area. Should you decide to go another way, though, the re-route is quick. My dell unit would go on for miles before it would finally give up and reroute. TomTom keeps re-routing constantly, and for the most part, quietly. Also, it give plenty of notice regarding turns and exits. This was especially nice in the interstate traffic in Nashville and Memphis. Typically it would tell me about 2 miles before the exit. However on normal streets it provided notice a few hundred years in advance.
TomTom also has a feature called Mapshare, where one can make a correction, and upload it so others can get the correction on their unit. The 3rd Edition also offers traffic cameras, POI, and for an additional cost, traffic info.
I ran into two problems on the road. Going into Memphis on I-40, the instructions told me to get off at exit 12-B. But it was clear on the display that I should get off on 10-B to the interstate bypass. I did and the display was correct. On my way back, the other side of the exit was indeed marked 12. Also at one POI, it was off by several hundred yards. Other than those two issues, the directions were great, and maps were accurate.
Estimated driving time was also close, though in most cases I got there a few minutes early (not bad for 3 and 4 hr trips).
Battery time was a little short (about 2 1/2 hrs), and hooking up the charger while driving is risky. The night screen requires you to manually change it. It doesn't come with a case (TomTom's is $30). Other than that, this is a unit my parents can operate and understand. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it can get you to your destination.

Simply Amazing!
Pros: Small size, affordable, map share and easy navigation
Cons: Haven't come across anything that I didn't know before buying.
I was initially sceptic about its small size, but once I opened the box, I was happy with the size and brightness of the screen.
Though it does not have text-to-speech functionality(it does not tell you street names), you have to be really dumb to miss the turns. It will tell you well in advance when you have to turn and then remind you once more when you approach the turn. That's good enough for me. I am not willing to spend $200 more for text-to-speech functionality.
The mapshare technology is another interesting thing. You can download packages such as "Dunkin donuts" etc. for free !
The tomtom also supports customized maps for any trip planning.
Overall, its a fantastic product, worth the price.

Works well - Zero problems.
Pros: Great Price. Works Well.
Cons: None so far.
Product works very well, no problems at all. Very easy to use and to get started with. It will take a bit of time for the unit to pick up it's first satellite signal - have some patience.
Based on the first two weeks of ownership, I would recommend this product.

What a great product. I am very pleased with my TomTom 3rd Edition GPS receiver
Pros: Easy to use, very accurate. I live in a rural area and the map had a just completed highway bypass.
Cons: I could not find anything that I would consider a negative.

Simple and Affordable
Pros: Great Price, simple, easy, and Works
Cons: Expensive Accessories and Add-ons
This unit has everything that I wanted:
-turn-by-turn voice directions
-quick reliable navigation
-automatic re-routing
-clear up to date maps
-updatable maps
No this unit does not have bluetooth or an SD card slot. But, I personally don't need it. It comes with a mini USB connector that you connect to your computer. When the GPS is recognized, this triggers the desktop companion software to automatically download to your computer from the internet. The unit has a little over a gig of onboard storage for the us/canada maps and then about 100MB for add-on stuff (voices, map colors). I like the fact that it includes map share technology and a port for attaching a traffic antenna that works over FM. But, be aware the antenna is an extra $125 plus a subscription fee (I think).
Other than that, no complaints. It does what it says it can on the box and website. It basically operates itself once you input the destination. It is also very thin to fit easily in your pocket.
I thought the screen might be small, but in reality, it is plenty big enough. If it was any bigger, I feel like it might impede your view when mounted on the windshield or be too big for your pocket.

very basic functionality you can get same for less
Pros: easy to use - my review could be entusiastic if they would not fool me with unsupported claims about route planning
Cons: you can eneter only one destination - route planning is a joke
Pure Nonsense to connect to pc, play with continuous and repeated download of some file allowing me to "manage" my unit when I can do this manually entering the address much quicker than playing with your downloads. Plus whole night there was an error or I could not connect to their web site at all.
Fact they have number of customizable car icons is just foolishness. Memory is limited to 1 giga and completely full so do not dream about additional downloads.
Apparently the "route planning" is a gimmick to fight off competition.
I can congratulate only TOM TOM and yourself that they are punishing themselves by this dummy advertising claiming that this unit have something which actually doesn’t exist.
I am quite emotional about my wasted time. I would not even look in their direction if not the “route planning”
I am wishing you TOM TOM many happy returns of your merchandise. In my eyes you are foolish and you fully deserve high return rate of your units.
If I go on vacation , to drop uncle Sam off somewhere, to visit somebody there is always number of stops I am going to make
Your product should help me save not waist my time.
SO!! MANY HAPPY RETURNS!!! And more, more of them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After spending quite few days searching I think I would not recommend TOM Tom or GARMIN
They charge arm and leg for real route planning.
It looks like their merchandise is just excuse to rob my pocket.
I had nevaman 510 handheld pc and would be quite happy with the limit of 16 addresses per route and even crashing software but finally I can not use it after their reset switch finally gave up (plastic)
I think best solution would be look for handheld pc (for example Hewlett Packard iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion w/ Navigation, Wireless and Bluetooth) with the newest GPS chip and good software supporting multiple destination.
So long TOM TOM
You have nice (annoying according to my 11 years old daughter) voice but I can not spend my time on the road entering manually new and new address. This is actually dangerous.
For single routes I do not need GPS.
