Better bring a calculator to count up all the ways this concept saves fuel. Keep it plugged in overnight to get about 60 miles of gas- and emissions-free driving. For longer trips, the gas engine fires up to turn a generator, adding electricity to the lithium-polymer battery pack.

Munich's most exciting car in years will remind us why we love BMWs. BMW puts its best engine, the twin turbo 3-liter straight six, into its smallest coupe, the 1-series. Previously, the 1-series hasn't been available in the U.S., and used smaller engines, but for the 2008 U.S. launch, BMW pumps up the power considerably.

BMW enters the crossover market with the big, burly X6. The X6 is a cross between the 6-series coupe and the X5, approximating the body style of the former and the underpinnings of the latter. With the unveiling of the X6, BMW also showed off a hybrid version.

Ever dream of an S Class with a four-cylinder engine? The F700 research vehicle uses an innovative engine, called the DiesOtto, that burns gasoline but works like a diesel. It is amazingly efficient, with enough power to move a large sedan.

Video: 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C

Alfa Romeo is ready to re-enter the U.S. on the tail of this hot ride. With a carbon fiber body and a 4.7-liter V-8, the 8C is expected to go from 0 to 60 mph in around 4.5 seconds. Quantities will be limited, with only 100 being imported to the U.S.

What's the fastest 911 ever? This one. With 530 horsepower, the GT2 only takes 3.7 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph and has a top speed of 204 mph.

Finally, VW's Tiguan crossover is here. VW felt the need to offer an SUV-type car that was smaller than the Touareg. The Tiguan is no surprise, as it has been shown off in concept form long before now.

The swan song for the current A8 brings a pretty major refresh. Audi's biggest sedan gets a new grille treatment plus some of the innovative tech launched in other models, such as Side Assist. This technology flashes a warning if you are about to change lanes when another car is in your blind spot.

Video: 2009 Jaguar XF

The XF replaces the S-Type--and not a minute too soon. This new sedan from Jaguar represents the company's new design language, first seen in the Jaguar XK Coupe. The XF goes even more high tech, with a dial shifter for its automatic transmission and vents that hide when not in use. The navigation and music interface is particularly nice, and shows that the car has iPod and USB drive integration.

The latest crossover from Chrysler is all about flexibility. The Dodge Journey allows multiple seating configurations and includes some interesting tech in the dashboard. It can be ordered with Chrysler's MyGig entertainment system, which gives you navigation plus a hard drive to store music and pictures.
