The good: The Everki Plunge waterproof case does an effective job of keeping your gadgets dry.

The bad: The headphone connection malfunctioned on both Plunge cases we tested, and the included earbuds were uncomfortable, sounded muffled, and are prone to rust.

The bottom line: The Everki Plunge is a step up from a sandwich bag.

Because there's no shortage of companies offering waterproof iPod cases, we tend to cover only those that perform extremely well, or very poorly. The Everki Plunge ($19), unfortunately, falls in the latter category.

Of the two Everki Plunge cases we received--one designed for the iPod, the other for the iPod Nano--both were plagued by a malfunctioning headphone connection that rendered the product unusable. Faulty connections aside, the Everki Plunge's uncomfortably large and rust-prone earbuds are of such poor audio quality that they are unfit for anyone who intends to use them to listen to music. To be fair, the Everki Plunge did do an acceptable job keeping our MP3 player dry. Unfortunately, an unsealed pocket located in front of the water-tight MP3 player compartment gives the uncomfortable illusion that your precious gadget is drowning.

If you're looking for a waterproof iPod case that performs well, we recommend the H20 Audio or Ego Sound Case. You may even want to consider a small, dedicated waterproof player such as the Dolphin Swimmer.
