Pros I have had this drive for over 2 years and it has produced over 10,000 usable discs for me. Any write errors that I encountered were due to software issues or poor quality of media. on March 14, 2004 | Read full review

"After a few months...this burner bombs!"
onCons This cheap burner only works for a few months, then errors & problems are the norm. You constantly get buffer errors. There is NO support from the website, and even though they recommend you upgrade the firmware & reinstall the software, the pro

"I'm lucky one..."
onCons ...because I used it for about one year and 10 months. A few days ago, my cdrw went down. It continually locks up system, and it doesn't recognize any CDs. Bad...

"Rips through Audio Extraction and Burns"
onSummary My burner was actually supposed to be a Buslink 48x12x48, but inside package was a Lite-on 48x24x48,a common packagaing issue I hear. Burner absolutely smokes with audio extraction and burns an 80 min disk in just over 2 minutes. Not a single glitch or coaster.

""AWESOME""
onSummary It is a great bargain and what a deal it was. It works great and handles better than anything I have ever used.

"It lasted 6 months.....then went boom"
onSummary I got this product and felt like I got a great deal. Burned several discs and it was easy. Then the disc reader went boink....and it is now a paper weight. It was cheap and i guess I got what I paid for.

"Burn errors after little use"
onSummary I confess, my LiteON is a 121032, a couple of years old but I'm having the same trouble as is being reported on the new model. After burning a half dozen audio cds and maybe the same amount of data CDs it is no longer able to close a data CD correctly, reporting a seek error. This usually leaves the disc closed permanently even when you asked for it to close the session only. On other occasions it just 'coasters' the disk. Telephone support is unavailable as far as I can tell, and the website is next to no help. I tried downloading a firmware update and it failed to load. The drive was low-priced compared to others available at the time, but it is NO VALUE when you have to replace it after a year or two. Anyone who actually burns discs frequently would surely have trouble with this drive sooner than I did. LiteON appears to prove the old saying that you get what you pay for. My recommendation to anyone shopping for a CDRW is to invest $30 more and get a good drive from a well known company that will support their hardware. My LiteON cost me around $100 when I bought it, by the time I'm done it'll have cost me closer to $225 with the replacement drive (plus a handful of ruined CDs). It's not worth it.

"Sensational Value"
onSummary bought this in October, 2002 for $62 from J and R music world in NYC. It's a tremendous drive, absolutely blowing the CD burning doors off my old 8X LG unit. The documentation leaves something to be desired, and it never quite burned right with MusicMatch (though it extracts just fine). No matter, b/c the included Nero software is sensational: the best way to burn a disc. It's never given me problems. Audio ripping usually is accomplished at around 20X on my PIII 1GHz...not bad! Great upgrade.

"Long term use? NO WAY!"
onSummary If you are a person who likes to burn 500+ cds, this burner is DEF. not for u! I have used it, TWICE.. and both times it had broke on me. First time i prob burned 100+ cds, until i reached a prob. where i can burn cds, but i couldn't use the cdrom as a reader. Second, i prob burned aroudn 300 cds, and now i have a constant error where it keeps on freezin during the bruning process (even where there are no other programs running!). The price IS cheap.. but if u want something long lasting, look for another product. i still own a Sony 4x burner.. it prob burned 800 or so cds, and its still going good.

"DOESNT WORK"
onSummary THIS DRIVE WORKED GREAT IN THE BEGINING, NOW ALL IT DOES IS LOCK UP AND BURN COASTERS. GO TO THEIR WEB SITE AND READ THE FORUM IN THE SUPPORT SECTION. IT SEEMS A VERY HIGH PROPORTION OF THE PEOPLE ARE POSTING ABOUT THEIR 40125S NOT WORKING PROPERLY, AND WITH NO SUPPORT NUMBER ON THE SITE (NOT THAT I FOUND). I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS A PROBLEM WITH JUST THIS ONE OR ALL OF THIS MODEL AS NO ONE AT SUPPORT HAS RETURNED EMAIL. THINK TWICE ABOUT THIS ONE AND IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME, LIKE I SAID GO TO THE DISCUSSION SECTION OF SUPPORT ON THEIR WEBSITE AND YOULL SEE THE DISPROPORTIONATE AMOUNT OF THE POSTINGS ARE ABOUT THIS DRIVE AND IST FAILING.

""Outstanding""
onSummary This is an outstanding burner, both in terms of performance and value. Installation was easy, burns are fast, no problems at all! Purchsed from Best Buy for $70, with $35 rebate, net cost $35. Bonus, this is really a Lite-On 48X/24X/48X drive! Yes, it is the Lite-On LTR48246S in Buslink packaging! I am so happy I bought a second one with $45 rebate this time, net cost $25, what a deal! Highly recommended!

"Great Burner!!"
onSummary This is by far the best burner I've used and for the value it's aswome. It does everythings and support all major burning software. It comes bundle with Nero so you can't go wrong with one.
-
"Best value there is."
onSummary You cannot beat this drive, for any price. Lightning fast, burn proof works like a charm. If your a user who doent need all the crappy free software that comes with most drives, then this is the one to get.
