Less than a year after the release of Flash 8, which made it possible for Web designers and developers to create faster-playing animations, videos, games, and other interactive online content, Adobe has released the new Flash Player 9, which purportedly will render content 10 times faster. You can also grab this free player at Adobe's Web site. The next time you log on to a Flash-based Web site, you might be prompted to install the new Flash Player 9, a 1.0 MB download for Windows and 1.8 MB for Mac computers. Flash Player 9 includes a rebuilt Virtual Machine that is designed to make work easier for ActionScript 3.0 programmers and for those who use the Adobe Flex 2 enterprise Web development tool. Flash Player 9 is available only for Windows and Mac users--no update is available for Linux users, whose latest version remains Flash 7; nor is there a new FlashLite mobile edition at this time.

Earlier in June of 2006, Adobe released the most final public beta version of Flash Player 9, with the code name Blaze. In our tests, we were unable to detect a notable difference between the version 9 beta and Flash Player 8. We'll follow up with a detailed review of Flash Player 9 upon further testing.

Pros: I do not like anything as it keeps closing off my computer all day and night for no reason I am aware of.

Cons: shuts off my computer on all web pages I go to. Not bad web pages even here cnet.

Review: Bad to keep playing when you log in to almost all web pages even here at cnet, yahoo and all web sites that are safe.

My worst ever download experience

Pros: Convinced me to do something else with my time.

Cons: I can't see my 1 yr. old grandson on video photo site

Review: After spending an afternoon repeatedly trying to install 9.0.47.0 thru AOL, Firefox and Internet Explorer,I'm giving up for now and wanted to add to others' negative feedback.

I don't know if I have the energy to continue but I really would like to see the video of my grandson drinking from and asking for his bottle, especially since he lives 3000 miles away.

Fortunately, we do have a Webcam which works well.

BOYCOTT ADOBE!!

Pros: NONE - won't work

Cons: ALL - nothing good about it

Review: I truly wish websites would quit using Adobe Flash or Adobe shockwave. I have installed and uninstalled using their own uninstaller, booted, and rebooted and still can't get Adobe 9 to work. There is no customer support. I suppose they don't care about those of us who use their free downloads. I never had a problem when it was maintained by macromedia. I also don't like Adobe PDF files since they take up so much space on the hard drive. STOP USING ADOBE PRODUCTS!!

Went Back FP8 After 5 Mins

Pros: Can't Find Any

Cons: Some Website's Kept Asking Me To Install Flash

Review: After upgrading to 9 from 8 cnet.com video's on it's home page wouldn't show. And some websites kept asking me to install it again & again even thou it was installed.

After removing 9 rebooting installing 8 that I have backed-up to my useful software DVD-R. Everything was back to normal cnet.com's video showed up again. I've no idea what version 9.0XXXX it was I installed but it dosn't work stay with 8 if your internet browsing is alright.

will not work after downloaded

Pros: would be great if adobe customer service replied to emails

Cons: i have none

Review: i have tried to download several times, and still will not work. sent email to adobe with problems, and got no response.

customer service could have helped, but never did. i had to install and uninstall MANY MANY times before it finally worked. i went to several websites that required the flash player, so my problems was not caused by myself or my computer.

Yield to the Nag!

Pros: Speeds up browsing especially with older machines with a dialup connection.

Cons: None that are apparent.

Review: I yielded to the Nag and notice a significant increase in speed while browsing web content with an old PIII system on a dialup connection. There's not a significant difference with a faster system that's connected with a cable MoDem, but it does seem to be a bit quicker.

Since it only takes a moment to update and there's no noticable downside, recommend just "Get R Done" if for no other reason than to avoid being nagged about doing it.
