"CLEAR INTERNET IS AWFUL!!!"
on by Frannie98Pros Not sure there are any pros...
Cons Service constantly drops. HORRIBLE customer service.
Summary If I could give zero stars I would. CLEAR service constantly drops. I'm talkin' several times a day - up to every 30 minutes or so. I contacted customer service several times to get some help. First they said they would refresh my connection - that it would take 24 hours. That didn't work. Then they said they would send me a new modem. They wanted to charge me $9.95 to pay for shipping! I had to speak to a manager to get them to waive the shipping charge! When I talked to the manager, I expressed my unhappiness about their service. At the end of my call, they said I would get the new modem in a few days. Then a few minutes after the phone call ended, my internet showed a Certificate Error - - - I COULD NO LONGER USE MY INTERNET! The Certificate Error was from CLEAR! My internet access would only allow me to open the CLEAR website and the error message stated that I needed to contact customer service. I first used their chat and began chatting with a customer service agent who said there was nothing they could do - that my account showed that my modem was broken and I needed to wait until my new modem arrived!!! Then I called customer service and spoke to a woman who tried to feed me the same bull. The new modem would take several days to get to me and there was nothing she could do for me! What REALLY happened was they decided to cut me off because I spoke up about their crappy service. I finally asked to speak to a manager and asked her if CLEAR planned to pay me for the wages I would lose due to not having internet access, since I work at home and need internet. She went away for a few minutes. When she came back she was magically able to restore my internet access!
LIARS!!! They are evil! They will screw with you just because they can. HORRIBLE!!!! The worst customer service I have ever experienced!!! -
"JUST SAY NO!"
on by KantStanditPros no contract
Cons not what they advertise
Summary JUST SAY NO!
Portland, OREGON.
Everything said is in my opinion. But with facts.
They sell you 4G then they give you a regulated system.
First month is good, THEN....... slower than molasses. ALL DAY, ALL NIGHT.
I use about 1,300 MB in a MONTH.
I can't watch a Youtube video online or anything on Netflix that doesn't take forever to load and cuts out on me constantly.
Here is the response from Clear.
"Your speeds are slowed automatically because you are one of a very small percentage of customers who are using an abnormally high amount of network capacity. CLEAR uses a data speed regulation system to temporarily reduce the data speeds of solely those customers who are demonstrating atypically high levels of data usage during periods when a large number of customers are online."
" The end result is that a few heavy users temporarily give up some speed during discreet times of extremely high internet demand, so that the greatest number of our customers can enjoy a positive online experience."
"I understand this is frustrating for you, customer. Our data regulation system automatically slows the speeds of our very highest users when their tower is congested. This is intended to provide a good online experience for the vast majority of our customers. The congestion level at your tower will determine when your higher data speeds will return."
I am extremely close to TWO towers and have my device in a second floor window. Can't even get 2 green lights on my device.
Purchased a Clear Spot for a child. Goes to visit family and because the signal is so bad on the clear spot CLEAR just shuts off the device with not notification to me. I have to call and have them turn the "mobile" device back on. They claimed it was affecting other customers. How dumb of an answer is that.
Shame, Shame, Shame on you Clear. -
"Depends on location, but often get 10mbps+"
on by jim.danielsonPros At work, I have gotten 11mbps when placed near a window
Battery seems to last forever, have used it 6+ hours. I have let it sit standby for 10 hrs and then used it another 4.
I use 300mb/day+ I will definitely go over the other carriers limits.Cons If it is plugged in when you turn it on, it tells you it is missing the battery... makes no sense. I always have to unplug it, turn it on, then plug it in.
Gets really bad speeds if you dont have good 4g coverage or if not by a windowSummary Happy with Clear, as it was really my only option besides comcast at my business. And I hate comcast as they tried to screw me over.

"The Clear Spot Apollo works suprisingly well!"
on by sschlack0619Pros Affordable, unlimited data, portable, handy on-device display, good battery life, relatively fast if you are in a good coverage area, external antenna capability to improve signal, month to month service, etc. It makes 802.16 mobile WiMAX look good.
Cons Don't expect wireline speeds or seemless streaming all the time. It works well with a streaming ROKU player.
Summary Much better option than other hotspots with capped data plans. My wife and each have one and this little device gives us quality, portable Internet connectivity.

"Great as long as you know what you are getting."
on by kenbr1960Pros Good speed, easy to use.
Cons Coverage is spotty
Summary I had pretty basic needs. There are three places I needed mobile internet and I needed unlimited data as I stream slingbox video from my home. Once I got the Clear Spot 4g Apollo the first thing I did was make sure it worked in all three places, which it did. I don't travel much and if I do I can still browse using my capped phone plan and if I'm in a spot where I have Clear coverage I can use the Apollo. It fits my needs perfectly and works great.
