Must have for your HD/SD viewing, but expect steep learning curve and a product still maturingby jsmiller58 - March 23, 2007
Pros: Great clean up of video, upscaling to 1080p looks great
Cons: Firmware still has a long way to go to mature, very complicated to set up for most mortals
Review:
I have this married up to a Pioneer FHD1 (which I run in dot by dot mode), with xbox360 and ps3. I really like the quality of the picture - both HD and SD input looks great, and games are really stunning. The control provided by all of the features in the VP50 would put videophiles in heaven. It is in all that control that some of the problems arise - this is a very complex piece of hardware, and you really need to have someone come out and set it up for all of the various pieces of hardware you will hook up to it. I have heard stories of people who carry them out of the store under their arms bringing them back that same way...! I cannot imagine buying this online and trying to set it up on my own... Also, the firmware is still evolving, and there are a few features (like noise reduction) still lacking. Finally, there are some well documented issues with the PS3 (when the PS3 is set to output in 1080p). All in all, though, a good buy to enhance your viewing pleasure!
