Great Product Overall...

Pros: Hasn't dropped signal yet.

Cons: Had to buy a power strip to include it on my outlet.

Review: This is an awesome product. It had a weird start though, dropping the signal every five minutes. I monitored it for about an hour and the signal dropped 3 times in the first fifteen minutes of installing it. After that, it hadn't dropped the signal since. My cable modem's signal level is operating at optimum levels with changes being only +/- 3db and the quality on the television is great. Great product. No regrets.

Reception poorer after installing this product

Pros: None that I can think of

Cons: $40 more for a poorer signl?!

Review: After installing this device, the cable reception on EVERY tv was considerably poorer. If I didn't plug in the adpater the cable was fuzzy... when I powered it up it got even worse. Of course this led to my wife questioning whether I installed it right! Looks like a field trip back to Best Buy tonight.

Uni-directional AMP

Pros: 4 db downstream gain

Cons: 7 db upstream loss

Review: Don't let the description fool you like it did me. If you need an amp to amplify your return signal, look elsewhere, as this device makes things worse. I bought it based on two things:
4 db gain
bi-directional amp

What the online descriptions fail to mention is the gain only applies to downstream.

Too bad the graphic isn't a GIF - the label on the unit clearly says 7 db loss return path, but the JPG dithering makes it impossible to read.

This unit cut my upload speed by about 15%. My download speed was already OK, but my upload speed sucked compared to neighbors, which is why I bought this so-called bi-directional amp.

Time to find another one - hopefully, one which specifies the return path gain.

Beware!

Very good product

Pros: Works very well with cable modem. Significantly improves speed.

Cons: Relatively expensive and requires 12v external power

Review: Before purchasing this product, I have been using many splitters to connect my cable modem, cable tuner, windows media center and an additional small tv. As number of terminals increased the quality of the signal degraded and the internet connection also slowed down to 5 or so mb/s (without these splitters I used to have a download speed of approximately 10MB/s). After I have installed the RCA DT140M signal booster, not only have my tv signals improved significantly, but also my internet speed has been restored to the original 10MB. I am very happy with this product.

Very Effective

Pros: Splits a cable signal with minimal or no signal degradation; Includes mounting screws

Cons: More expensive than a regular splitter; Doesn't come with a ground wire

Review: I installed the RCA DT140M to split a cable line into one that goes to my (Road Runner) cable modem, and another that goes to the TV tuner in my PC. This was done as an upgrade to a bottom-of-the-line splitter I had been using.

Before installing the unit, I did two types of internet speed tests (one was a common third-party speed test, the other was a large-file download provided by Road Runner explicitly for speed testing). I did this with no splitter at all installed. After installing the splitter, I repeated the speed tests. They were exactly the same! The picture quality coming in from my TV tuner increased pretty dramatically as well.

Never buy an ultra-cheapo splitter, like I did before. And if a high-quality normal splitter doesn't work well enough for you, the RCA DT140M may very well be exactly what you need. It works great for me, and also for the person I recommended it to, who then installed it and also noted very good results.
