"The UI sucks. The screen is too dark. The buttons are cheap..." on by cpineda8

Pros: Its small, gets decent reception.

Cons: Many. It seems cheap and the user interface is very cumbersome.

Summary: Probably one of the worst phones I've ever used. After using Nokia, LG and Handspring, I can definitely say the Audiovox has the absolute worst user interface I've used. I received this phone as a replacement for my insured LG phone (forget the model). It definitely was a disappointment. I can't wait to get rid of it but I've got another 6 months left on my Verizon contract.

"Who paid C/Net for the Review?" on by eli77057

    Pros: It works, sometimes

Cons: The audio level changes just by handling the phone

Summary: If I get 50% of my calls I'm lucky but I live in a sparsley populated area, Houston, TX. The phone couldn't connect with an ugly girl at a meet market let alone an incoming phone call.

You have to exercise caution how you handle the phone because it will cause the volume to decrease from 5 to 1 or 2

"Not worth it! Even for free." on by bugg477

Pros: Hmmm??? Looks alright. The size is nice...really small. Good display, but small.

Cons: Lots of things bothered me.

Summary: Speaker phone isn't very loud. The prongs on the charger part can get bent if you are not very carefull with plugging it in, then they touch if they are bent when you plug it in next time causing a malfuntion in your phone. Sometimes it just decides not to ring. A couple times I have gotten messages a few days later. It's hard to open with one hand, because there is no lip hardly for you to catch a finger on. Didn't come with any games on it already, you have to purchase them with get it now through verizon. The ringer isn't very loud especially the downloaded ones. I almost cant even hear it if it is just tucked in an open pocket of my purse. Another thing that I found out when I got my first bill is that when you are downloading or even just browsing to download, it uses your minutes, nice way to make even more money. I think if you are buying the ringtone that should cover the time it takes to pick it and download it. Just my opinion, and it would have been nice to know that before I went 200 minutes over my allowance @ $0.45 per minute. Pretty much I don't recommend this phone and make sure you be carefull with the get it now program. Use it on your free nights and weekends.

"A Number of Annoying Issues" on by trelster

    Pros: Small and Compact

    Cons: Displays, Flip, Volume

Summary: I've been using the CDM-8600 for over 18 months and am very much looking forward to my contract renewal coming up soon. Issues: The screen immediately began collecting dust on the inside and by now is VERY hard to read. The volume simply does not get loud enough and can be very difficult to hear when there is outside noise. I find myself always trying to turn it up. The flip is difficult to open with one hand, and snaps back shut hanging up on the caller if you're not careful. The outside screen flashes "Verizon" more than the date/time and the caller ID, forcing you to wait a full ring to see who is calling. The battery life is fair at best. The belt clip broke within 6-9 months, and I don't remember being too hard on it. It is small, but it is thick and wearing it on your belt is difficult. The only real positive is the fact that the phone still works after 18 months, but the annoyances I've experienced have been dissapointing.

"Junk. Junk. Get it??" on by rubysgrandpa

    Pros: Weight and size

Cons: Unreliable. What more do you need to know?

Summary: When given the opportunity to get a free phone thru Verizon, I chose this phone because I had already owned an Audiovox "Tri Mode", which was great but getting old. I then switched over to CDM 8600 and since then,I have had nothing but trouble with it. And I am on my second phone (of this model). It is difficult to hear out of the earpiece even at maximum volume, it loses it signal very easily resulting in lots of dropped calls and most annoying, it will turn off by itself. It will sometimes turn itself back on but most of the time it doesn't. I stopped using my security password because I got tired of having to reset the phone when powering back up. It has even given me voice mail messages two to three days after the call was made!
Verizon did run a diagnostic test on it and they found the 1st 8600 to be defective. They replaced the phone with a new one but it is no better. I am not happy with this phone at all and at times have felt like throwing it into a wall (really!).
I am locked in my plan until May of next year and Verizon Customer Service said that there is nothing else they can do for me short of selling me a new phone at full price (so much for customer satisfaction).
I would highly recommend that you not choose this phone for as your personal cell phone. And if you need this phone for a side job (I umpire baseball and softball on the side), be ready to lose some money when they call somebody else with a better phone because they can't get a hold of you!
So I'll live with this phone until next year... Nextel...I'll see you all in May!!
