"Danger ! do not purchase" on by devildogtey
Pros: Nice looking but has problems
Cons: sub display
Summary: Got one in January from US Cell. Last week the sub display (outside display) exploded while talking on it. A large dark spot developed where the full charge on the battery pack drained into my hand. The DC charge makes it so you can't let go. It took about 3 seconds to drain the fully charged battery into my hand before I could drop it. I recieved minor burns!
Audiovox help desk person, as well as US Cell can't explain. All I know is I was told I would be without my phone for 4 to 6 weeks while it is being repaired if sent to Audiovox, of course I will still be paying for my plan from US Cell.
Stay away from this piece of junk. As for a replacement phone as per my extended service contaract with US Cell, that will take 4 to 6 days before they can ship me a "loaner" phone that will cost me $75 to accept.
A phone call with a tech from audiovox (over 2 hours on hold) explained it as a problem they have seen a few times, but so far have kept the problem "covered up in house" due to the expected legal action if it got out to the public. Legal action I will be taking! It is not a safe phone !!! -
"good phone if you have right cellservice provider" on by uchie2
Pros: nice program features to download with metro pcs
Cons: bad factory battery, poor led screen in sunlight.
Summary: i replaced the original battery with a new more powerful one it fixed a lot of issues with the phone. i have no problems with the sound volume or software of the phone under metro pcs. like others using verizon or cellular one versions of the phone. ring tone can be heard clearly when purchasing x-ringer cdm8900 ring tones. the phone is delicate like an i-pod when it comes to scratching i recommend invest in a clear body glove case. nice inexpensive mode accessorys available on line but not very many for cellular one or verizon versions of the phone. it use to drop calls under metro pcs some times but i replaced the original antenna with a better one no call problems any more since. i can`t recommend this phone for any one who uses verizon or cellular one as a cell phone service provider almost every one who had problems with this phone on every web review site i found had a verizon or cellular one version of the 8900 phone.ive had mine since february 2005 to oct 2005 it still works for me with the battery and antenna mod`s.

"I think this phone is ok" on by jrankhorn1
Pros: looks nice and works ok
Cons: the phone has a battery problem
Summary: I have had this phone for 6 months and have replaced the battery twice and the ringer is not very loud I have had a few dropped calls and it is more of a provider problem than anything but I think that if the bugs were worked out it might be a great phone the camera takes nice shots for a phone @640x400 res.but I would not buy this phone again

"8900 is an Excellent Phone" on by smokey43
Pros: Speaker phone is easy to use and loud enough to hear
Cons: Can't change the banner, but it is a Verizon issue and not Audiovox's fault
Summary: Have had this phone for over a year and I can find no real fault with it. Most that I read in other reviews appear to be the cell phone service provider issues rather than issues specific to the 8900. I don't use the camera much other than to keep a picture of my grandaughter on it. But it takes pictures of quality for a cell phone. I see the reviews that dwell on the camera. Buy a real digital camera if you want a camera is my feeling. Don't remember but 2 or 3 dropped calls in over a year and that was while driving and I understand the "handoff" between towers is not always perfect. I like the phone and I know there are many options but the 8900 has been excellent for me. I give it a perfect rating as I believe it deserves a higher average than it has. A number of the low ratings reviews don't seem to address specific areas of performance that are really bad or that I have encountered.
