"Pay-as-you-go saves me $40/month :)" on by mbabbe
Pros: Pay $5/mo instead if $46/mo. Oh yeah! Receive free text msg
Cons: Teen oriented. Phone is cooler than I am.
Summary: What's great about this phone is not the phone; but Virgin Mobile. I dumped by SprintPCS $39/mo plan (which really cost me $46/mo). I only use about 20 to 30 minutes per month. Now with auto top-off, I can get it down to $15 every 90 days. So only $5 per month. Only sales tax applies, none of those extra charges.
SprintPCS is Virgin's carrier, so my service remained exactly the same. (OK, but not great).
Receiving text messages are free, something not true under my $46 plan.
It's too obviously for teens, and tries to be too cool. No big deal, but my phone says "later" instead of "good bye". I don't really want to download Animated Spongebob ringtone, but there's no harm in offering. -
"get the slider instead" on
Pros: - nice color display - exterior display - good tactile buttons/layout - seems more durable than slider
Cons: - no voice dialing/activation - vibrate/silencer mode is always reset after phone is turned off ... annoying - super polyphonic ringtones are expensive and not very loud - exterior display is only monochrome - color display is difficult to see in sunlight

"Solid basic phone" on by metamerman
Pros: Charging, outside display, easy to use
Cons: Weak built-in ringtones
Summary: Got this as a replacement for an Oystr (avoid Oystr's like the plague!) It's a solid phone although with minimal features. The display is not quite as bright as some newer phones, but it's still very easy to read. Good battery life, excellent charging (fast, and red/green indicator light on outside shows status), and good signal and voice quality make it a good (and very popular) choice. Virgin's auto-top-up prepaid plan is best, and we've looked at them all (and tried several that we found lacking).

"Better than many more expensive Virgin phones" on by UNCMAN
Pros: great keypad layout, great texting software, VXtras loads faster than VXL, intuitive tools, vibrant color screen- no really, the screen looks better than the Cyclops camera phone!
Cons: no downloadable games, although Magic Hexa is pretty fun, no multimedia messaging
Summary: This phone is made to such a better standard than any other Virgin Mobile phone I have had. This is the only one that hasn't had a creaky navigation array, a sticky #4 button, a creaky #2 button, or a noisy and shaky battery door. This phone also has the highest quality keypad, because it is well laid out, backlit nicely, and doesn't have overly stiff keys. The screen is vivid, something I didn't expect from a basic phone. I recently replaced this phone with the new Kyocera Cyclops, and unfortuately, to be a camera phone, the display on the Cyclops doesn't compare. The Vox's display is larger, more vivid, and with a much more pleasing menu interface. Downloadable real music ringtones ( superphonic )sound great, better then the incredibly hard to understand noises coming from the Kyocera Oystr, the muddy sound coming from the Nokia Shorty, or the extra shrieks coming from the Kyocera K10 Royale. This phone also has excellent voice quality, though the volume is just a tad low. The only cons on this phone are no downloadable games (although Magic Hexa is fun), no web browser ( I use this as a computer replacement on trips-it works in a pinch), and no multimedia messaging, especially because pictures would look good on the excellent display. This phone is $10 more than the Oystr, Marbl, Shorty, and K10 Royale, but the difference in quality is huge, and therefore the Vox 8610 is easily the best of the basic Virgin Mobile phones. Besides, if you read some reviews, it is the only one that doesn't have any glitches, like an auto shut-off bug, shutting off displays, or battery life problems. If you are in the market for a basic prepaid cell phone, get the 8610.
