"My phone reception was drastically decreased" on by TripodGal

Pros: It has a compact clamshell design, is lightweight and easy to carry and use. Nice neutral black color.

Cons: Tech support says I got a bad phone, because of all the problems I've had with reception and sporadic service issues. I don't know for sure if Cricket's services are downgraded, or it's the difference in phones, or both. I started out with a very cheap st

Summary: Due to my experience with the phone, I would not recommend it for even basic call use. The internal antenna is awful compared to other phones I have used. Definitely not for pictures, if that feature is important to you. The reason I came to CNET is to shop carriers and phones. I am self-employed and depend too much on my phone to put up with these problems. Cricket's customer service has also drastically downgraded since I started with them over 3 years ago. They now outsource their CS to India like all the others. I've been round and round about my probems with this phone and my service with no change for the better. It used to be a great service for a great price. That is no longer true. ~ I also have broadband service with them, which is better, but even that service has been giving me problems lately. So now I am having to find a new carrier with cell and broadband service, and everyone else is so much more expensive. That's the only reason I've continued with Cricket...still can't beat the prices. I'm really irritated to have to shop for a replacement service because they can't get their act together.

"A good, simple, all-around phone" on by IRSnyder

Pros: It's inexpensive, fits easily in your pocket, and had more built-in features than I was expecting.

Cons: The camera isn't great and the screen's resolution is low

Summary: I must begin by stating that I don't think many of the "professional" reviewers give this phone enough credit.

I previously owned an Epic 4g. It had great features, but I soon realized the amount I was paying for service didn't justify keeping the phone, which ultimately amounted to a fancy toy. Don't get me wrong... I loved it, but the service just cost too much. I switched to Cricket and bought a Captr II. After using it like crazy on the first day, I found I could do many of the things I did with my droid phone. I could use Cricket's mobile web, but was also able to access google, create bookmarks with a home screen widget (I could only create 5, but it was 5 more than I expected to be able to), and Cricket even provisioned a link for social networking sites and e-mail. The home screen widgets can even be customized to a degree. The cricket store matched the online price, so I scored the phone for $30. Call quality is typical of the other phones I've owned (blackberry, epic), and I don't really have anything bad to say about it. Frankly, I was expecting much less, and this phone surprised me. If you're in need of a fairly basic phone or need to downgrade due to financial reasons, this is the phone to buy. The only thing I really miss having is a full qwerty keyboard, but I have no regrets.

"Really inexpensive- you get what you pay for!" on by paljoey1956

Pros: This is a sturdy phone and it holds a charge well. It's fairly easy to use, and has basic web capabilities and bluetooth.

Cons: The camera is appallingly bad. It is almost useless. If the camera matters, pass on this phone. The time stamps on the text tell you when they came into your phone. If your phone is off, you have no idea when the messages were originally sent.

Summary: I bought this to replace a low end Samsung model which had really bad sound quality. While it is a much better phone across the board, I was really unhappy with the camera, which has almost no ability to take pictures unless you are in very bright light. The time stamp on the text is odd. I have found with Cricket, if you are getting text messages from someone on another carrier, there is very often a time lag of a few minutes to hours between the time the message was sent and the time I get it. The time stamp shows me when the message was actually received on my phone, so I have no idea when the sender tried to contact me. If you really use your phone camera, this is not the phone for you. If you want a basic phone with basic web capacity, it's a good deal for the money, since Cricket is currently running a sale on it.

"Tough as nails!" on by myxperience

Pros: For the price I have got way beyond my expectations in durability. I've dropped it many times without the screen cracking, thrown it at a concrete wall, it even fell into the tub full of water and STILL works perfecect!!

Cons: The speakerphone SUCKS, Very distorted especially when you turn it up so you can hear and its not nearly loud or clear enough. Small and poor display. Camera is low budget but it works. Hey this is a cheapie phone, who can complain.

Summary: It has survived all this and still works like new! I'd buy it again. Great phone for kids IMO
