"Not Bad; A Step Backwards from its Predecessor, the Slider SE47"
Pros: Beautiful color; Solid feel in the hand; Large screen
Cons: User interface less than perfect; Backlights on keys are dark; Screen is bad in sunlight
Summary: I have the Slider SE47 and (except for a few quibbles) love that phone. When the Slider Remix KX5 came out, I thought this would build on the successful parts of the SE47 and be a little slice of heaven. But it's NOT.
In some important ways the Slider Remix is a step backwards from its predecessor, the Slider SE47:
* The screen is bigger, but much of that is wasted by poor user interface design. In effect, the SE47 puts more info. on the screen (and more legibly) than the KX5 despite a smaller screen.
* Text messages: The text box where you enter your text message is very small (2 lines) compared to the SE47 (4 lines).
* Contacts: When viewing a contact, half the screen is taken up by the icon and the word, "Contact." Hello! I already know this is a contact.
* OK Button: Confusingly, if you get a dialog box asking you to press OK, you need to press the soft key. If you press the OK button, it WON'T WORK.
* Back Button: It's easy to accidentally press the Back Button or to hit the Down button when you want Back.
* When the phone is closed, the SE47 shows the time in a beautiful 50-point font. The KX5 turns off its screen. You can set the KX5's screen saver to show the time, but it's in a fugly, illegible 12-point (comic sans!) font.
Personal Pet Peeve:
The phone is as bright as a lighthouse when recharging, which means I can't recharge it near my bed, or I won't be able to sleep. Why can't it be that bright in the sun?
