"Slider Sonic to be returned" on by AndrewHansenJaffee

Pros: Virgin Mobile is a good value

Cons: Virgin locked out the functions I wanted

Summary: I just purchased and am now returning the Slider Sonic (The Kyocera KX5) after finding Virgin has disabled the transfer of photographs from the phone to a computer over the provided USB cable. This was, I believe, a thoughtless business decision to wrest a few more pennies for phone-only photo transfer at a cost of a $250 sale. After a two hour conversation with Kyocera support it became clear that Virgin took away (locked out) the existing file transfer from internal memory to the transflash card. When I e-mailed Virgin about this decision, they replied with the misleading statement:

It wasn't so much a business decision that made the phone unable to transfer pictures to the computer but a hardware limitation. Anything stored in the Transflash card, such as videos and MP3s, is transferable
to the computer via the USB cable. Pictures taken by the camera do not get stored in that memory, but in the phone's internal memory, along with ringtones, contacts, games and wallpapers. The internal memory of
the phone is inaccessible via the USB cable because of the way it's set up. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

    Matthew R.
    Virgin Mobile USA

It’s inaccessible because of the way it’s set up because of the way Virgin Mobile set it up. Nice logic, Matthew. Support at Kyocera can transfer photos, ringtones and files from internal to transflash memory but Virgin Mobile customers can’t. So, I can’t recommend the Virgin Mobile Slider Sonic.

"Best VM Phone I've Tried!" on by hellga

Pros: MP3 Player, Slider Phone, Good Software Layout

Cons: Buttons on outside get pushed by pockets, purses, etc.

Summary: I've used 6 different Virgin Mobile phones over the past few years, and I must say, this one takes the cake. For one thing, it is the only one that I know of with an external full-color screen. Also, it plays both .mp3 and .wmv files, which is great. It does come with a small transflash card (only 32 mb), but that is upgradeable...I would only complain about it if it was internal memory only. The headphones that come with it sound great to my ears, although apparently some people can't stand them. My main problem is the external buttons. The phone is designed so that you can do everything except dialing without sliding the phone open. This is great, unless you want to keep the phone in a pocket or a purse. To make matters worse, the keylock is unlocked by just a 2-button combo that can accidentally be pressed by just about anything or anyone. However, I am buying a hard case for the phone, and just using the hands-free option from now on, so it shouldn't be so much of a problem.

"Dont buy it, You will just return it!" on by iknowphones

Pros: Cool Design, Virgin Mobile (Prepaid), Music player that plays on headphones/speakerphone/norma l talk speaker, camer with flash, comes with TransFlash Card and USB Connector

Cons: Not that thin, has intrusive antenna, music player has just OK sound quality, you have to pay $5 a month for aim and pay per message, camera is on back, hooks up to windows xp only, small TF card...

Summary: I have had at least 7 cell phones this year, and I have to say that besides the Sidekick II, this is the worst phone I've had yet... I would tell you not to buy it, you will probebly end up returning it.

    Pros:
    -Cool Black Color
    -Prepaid
    -Music Player (mp3)
-Comes with TransFlash Card for Music
-Allows you to transfer videos from phone to PC
-Comes with a USB connector to link Phone to Windows XP PC
    -Camera with flash
-You can listen to music on included headphones/headset or speakerphone speaker or normal phone call speaker (Press speaker phone button once to turn speakerphone speaker off once in music player)

    Cons:
    -Shows every fingerprint
-Camera is on back so it is hard to take a picture of your self (even though it has a tiny mirror built in)
-Music player only plays mp3 files
-Just OK Music Player sound quality
-Virgin Mobile advertises that you can use AIM and only pay for the text messaging fees... They lie! you have to pay like 5 bucks a month just ot have the AIM aplication
-Can only link to Windows XP PC.
-No sync software, just a music and video folder
-Provide transflash card is only 32 mb!
    ***AND MOST OF ALL***
-Since power button is on outside and you don't have to hold it down to turn it on (power button is end key) it will ALWAYS turn it self on when you have it in your pocket.

Overall I would say it has a cool look and concept but most of the features dont work well and it is sort of fat (not a slim phone)... I had it in my pocket one day and it turned it self on and called 3 people!!!

Pros: mp3, camera, video recorder, slideing design, big screen

Cons: buttons on outside get pushed when in pocket

Summary: This is the best virgin mobile phone I've had. Over the last few years I've tried the K10 Royale, Cyclops, and now this. I love the wheel of fortune menu design. Plus the big screen is just GREAT!. The game pads is a little cheesy but great when your traveling.
