"Slider Sonic to be returned"
Pros: Virgin Mobile is a good value
Cons: Virgin locked out the functions I wanted
Summary: I just purchased and am now returning the Slider Sonic (The Kyocera KX5) after finding Virgin has disabled the transfer of photographs from the phone to a computer over the provided USB cable. This was, I believe, a thoughtless business decision to wrest a few more pennies for phone-only photo transfer at a cost of a $250 sale. After a two hour conversation with Kyocera support it became clear that Virgin took away (locked out) the existing file transfer from internal memory to the transflash card. When I e-mailed Virgin about this decision, they replied with the misleading statement:
It wasn't so much a business decision that made the phone unable to transfer pictures to the computer but a hardware limitation. Anything stored in the Transflash card, such as videos and MP3s, is transferable
to the computer via the USB cable. Pictures taken by the camera do not get stored in that memory, but in the phone's internal memory, along with ringtones, contacts, games and wallpapers. The internal memory of
the phone is inaccessible via the USB cable because of the way it's set up. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

Virgin Mobile USA
It?s inaccessible because of the way it?s set up because of the way Virgin Mobile set it up. Nice logic, Matthew. Support at Kyocera can transfer photos, ringtones and files from internal to transflash memory but Virgin Mobile customers can?t. So, I can?t recommend the Virgin Mobile Slider Sonic.

kyocera virgin sonic slider - after replacement because music player did not work I am totally fustrated with this phone. the memory card system failed 100%.
camera images are not down loadable to computer.
the majority of tech help with virgin group were rude and immature.
A manager/supervisors actually lied to me and about how much troubleshooting could be done over the phone.
after 4 hours of being placed on hold, dealing with initialization and set up both phones failed. I DO NOT recommend kyocera virgin sonic slider.
summary for virgin kyocera sonic slider: sucks, garbage, junk, fails, malfunction, worthless, waste, -
thanks, was going to get this phone until i read your review!

Virgin cannot limit the phone like that because altering kyocera's hardware will be in violation of the law. The chipset(samsung K) does not support USB transfer from/to its internal memory. The transflash slot is directly connected to the transflash slot, and the internal memory isn't. It may be a software limitation from Virgin,(if you're using software that Virgin provided), but otherwise, like if it was drag and drop, the hardware/you have the problem. Simply saying "virgin set it up that way" is SUCH AN INTELLIGENT JUDGEMENT EH? I wonder why they would actually limit the feature of photos to transfer to pcs... on purpose? I think not...

Is it too much trouble to email the pics to your email account to view? Better yet a friend to see. You can save the pics this way and view them.
I personally think the phone is great other than not enough memory on card which I knew before buying.
This phone for a pay as you go phone is great. I own 4 Virgin mobile phones and this one is the best obviously by features, price.
I went to a VA Tech football game was 50 rows up and got good pics and mini movie clips with great sound as well. The 640 by 480 is what it is people, not a 1,2,3 4,5 megapixel.
The only thing is on the memory card when saving your songs (mp's,wma'a) you can't single out one song at a time to remove from the card you have to format the whole card. This is what I have seen at least, maybe someone else knows the answer to this.
I say, if you want a pay as you go phone with features that are worth the money then get this phone. I am happy with the phone and I know you will be too.
If you are on the AOL feature and see me hit me up with a hello... thesickmarchie
Later true Virgin mobilers...

This phone doesn't look that great...cool factor of the slide is negated by the antenna. If you're looking for a phone that has mp3 player, camera, transflash, and the ability to transfer files to computer, check out the Motorola E398. It's the predecessor to the iTunes phone. I purchased mine unlocked through a cell phone dealer. You can also find them on ebay for a good price. I have no prob transferring my photos to the computer. Plus, I think it looks cooler than the slider.

how would you review the phone itself? features, display, etc. Pretend you didn't have this issue and just give me a review of the actual phone
