    "Not a man's phone"

by alxdgreat on November 7, 2005

Pros: Good call quality, easy enough to use

Cons: Too small... for even average-sized hands. That makes holding, or dialing with one hand, quite uncomfortable

Summary: I got this phone sight unseen since I signed up for Cingular service over the phone (migrated from AT&T Wireless). I actually signed up through SBC, and not Cingular directly, so it was my surprise that I was limited to a choice of only 4 phones, and not all that Cingular has to offer. Don't know why that is, and can be a whole separate gripe. Of course, the one I was interested in was not among the 4. The choices were the Razr (they wanted $200 for it -- no way); the Motorola v551 (didn't read all that great reviews on that one, so no); an LG c2000 (which I've seen before and didn't like); and this LG c1500. I thought I'd give it a try especially since they have a free after rebate offer.

Well, when it arrived, I was surprised as to how small this phone is. I think it's one of the smallest flip phones out there. Because of its size, I found it uncomfortable to hold while talking. After a while, my fingers start to hurt because of the way I have to hold it -- mostly due to it being so narrow. If I try to dial with one hand, it feels like I'm going drop it because I have to have it high up against my fingers for my thumb to be able to move about the keypad.

I must say, I do like the size of the number keys. They're pretty good for a phone this tiny, but the control and menu buttons above them are a bit small.

I have average size hands. I would think someone with large hands would have an even worse time with this phone.

Asthetically, the design is very feminine to me, especially the chrome trim and tiny box pattern within that. Looks like the outside of a purse!

On the plus side, the phone has very good call quality. I get good signal with it. I was even in a remote area and was still getting a couple of tics on the signal meter. That may be due to the service though.

The functions are ok and easy enough to learn. I didn't even have to open the manual. Just tinkered with it. The menu is a little strange. For example, I don't know why they put the address book as selection #8. Shouldn't that be #1? But, nothing that you won't get used to.

I've been using this phone for several days now, and it's going back because I can't work with its size. I've already arranged through Cingular to send me a good ol' Nokia candy bar style almost like my previous one with AT&T which I loved.

So, if you like a tiny phone, you probably can't beat this one for its compactness. Women will probably like this one more than a guy. But other than that, it's a good phone.

One of my C1500 phones was run over by a 4X4 and still works - so I got 4 more - Also if you think the keyboards small you have not disassembled it yet and cleaned it. Seriously I love it because I bars of signal.
and after the hurricanes in Florida It gave me communications when wire lines were down and Sprint Nextel and others towers were not working. I have 3 other big fancy phones in he closet Motorola - Sprint Mfg unknown - Samsung they are nicer phones but they can not find the towers even with the latest firmware upgrades.

Don't complain about a product when it was clearly your fault for not getting off your rear end long enough to visit an actual Cingular Wireless store to compare handsets before buying. At the very least, you should have visited Cingular.com to browse through the phones there! Jeez!
