"Beautiful, sleek, and fun to use!"
Pros: great looks and design, well made,
Cons: collects fingerprints
Summary: I recently upgraded from the Motorola e815. That was a great phone but I can honestly say that the VX8550 has everything for me that the e815 lacked. For starters, I can actually transfer files via bluetooth where this feature was disabled in the e815. No more taking out the SD card every time I want to transfer pictures!
Initially, I was a little concerned about the slider mechanism. I thought it would be flimsy, loose, and frustrating to use. Once I visited a Verizon store and was able to handle it, I realized it was very well made and the slider was not only solid but easy and fun to use. After seeing it and handling it, I knew for sure this was the phone for me.
Another worry I had was that the scroll wheel and touch keys would be hard to use. Though they took a little time to get used to, it isn't at all difficult and I really enjoy using them. You can even adjust the sensitivity on both.
Though I would like to give this phone a 10, as it is perfect for me, there are some things that other people would likely have a problem with: Because of the position of the clear key and that it is a touch key, it is easy to let your thumb brush across it and cause you to go back. I did this quite a bit at first but knew in time I would simply learn to work around that and I have. Another thing that could be a drawback for people who like to text and/or have big fingers is that the keypad is pretty crowded. Even with my small fingers, it has taken some getting use to but I don't mind it at all. The constant having to wipe off the fingerprints can be a little aggravating but I was prepared for this before I got it so it is not a big deal. It does wipe clean very easy.
Another thing I have liked is the ability to make my own ringtones by recording song clips, converting to mp3 format, then sending them to myself. It is far less expensive than purchasing the ringtones from Verizon and you can choose whatever song you please instead of being limited to what is available. I found that 30 seconds or less are best to prevent the file from being too big.
The battery life seems adequate and I am sure once I get to a point that I am not constantly playing around with the phone, I will be able to go 3 days, maybe more, without needing to charge it.
The camera is far better than in my previous phone. I really wasn't expecting much from it but I am actually impressed by the color and clarity of the pictures. Though it will never beat a dedicated digital camera, it is certainly decent for a cell phone camera.
There are many cool features that make this phone stand out. It's shape, style, color (mine is red), light-up scroll wheel, and many other things make this phone striking and unique. For me, it was the perfect choice and I am very pleased with it.Updated
Now that I am down to regular use on this phone I have been keeping track of the battery life and I only need to charge it every 3-4 days. Even after allowing my teen dance students take turns playing around on it the other night, trying out all the features, it still lasted 3 days.
I also love the way this phone really draws attention. It is such a nice looking phone that it really catches the eye and I get a lot of compliments on it.Updated
