    "Overall a great mobile phone."

by dgeviper on July 16, 2007

    Pros: Great looking, and full-featured.

Cons: Constantly have to unlock the keys and there's no "send" key when the phone is closed.

Summary: I walked into my local Verizon Wireless store last Friday fully expecting to buy a white chocolate version of the previous model. To my surprize, that line of phones had already been replaced by this line. I have to admit, I kind of bought it without even really comparing it to other phones. It had a striking outer appearance and the interface was top notch so I didn't bother with anything else. My previous phone was an LG VX6100 which was not very well featured and had a tired LG interface that was used before the current universal Verizon interface took over. My main reason for sticking with Verizon is the navigation feature they offer. The new LG VX8550 looks great, takes great pictures, and plays music very well. The only things that kind of annoy me are that you have to unlock the keys constantly to use the phone in closed mode, and closed mode doesn't offer you any sort of "send" key so you have to open the phone to do many things you're used to doing on the previous chocolate model while it was closed. LG removed the outside send key and replaced it with a speakerphone key. The main problem with the constantly self-locking keys is that when you're recieving a call the phone says "Press OK to unlock" then you have to hit OK again to officially unlock it then you have to hit OK again to answer it. YOU HAVE TO HIT OK 3 TIMES TO TAKE A CALL!! The touch sensitive controls have vibration feedback this time around which is cool, but there really is no excuse for no send key on this phone's exterior.

After reading this post, all I could think of was female and blonde for some strange reason.

While you do have to hit OK 3 times with the phone closed to answer a call, you could just slide it open to answer it. I don't think it's such a bad thing as it prevents your phone from answering if it's in your pocket and the button gets hit accidentally.

When you're viewing a contact you want to call while it's closed, there is a "Call" feature on the left menu option. Click that and it'll call.

What kind of functions can you no longer make since there is no send button? you can access anything you want with it closed through the menu, go to contacts, and you can search all your groups and speed dials.
