CNET Editors' Review

The good: Solid reception; loud speaker/ringer; great speakerphone; changeable faceplates.

The bad: Menu system is a bit awkward; no downloadable ring tones.

The bottom line: If you can get past the goofy ring tones, the VX2000 makes for a decent, pragmatic cell phone.

Review: Phones with color displays may be all the rage, but what if you're looking for a happy medium between the top of the line and the bottom of the barrel? Enter the LG VX2000. While this candy bar-style mobile lacks high-tech extras such as a camera or downloadable ring tones, it offers decent battery life and a built-in speakerphone, among other practical features.

Cons Multilingual support needs refinement; Cumbersome phone book and text message entry; No frills.

Summary The LG VX2000 is a mobile telephone, and as such does its duty well. There are few frills on this model - A monochome display, two games, two "background themes", text messaging, and no user-installable ringtones.

Calls are not dropped, and do not wane in low-battery conditions. The lithium-ion battery
