"If your primary concern is to place calls, the LG VX2000 will do." on by NeoAmsterdam

Pros: Long battery life; Clear audio; Hasn't dropped a call in two years; No frills.

Cons: Multilingual support needs refinement; Cumbersome phone book and text message entry; No frills.

Summary: The LG VX2000 is a mobile telephone, and as such does its duty well. There are few frills on this model - A monochome display, two games, two "background themes", text messaging, and no user-installable ringtones.

Calls are not dropped, and do not wane in low-battery conditions. The lithium-ion battery withstands a full day's worth of calling and charges well. Text messaging is adequate, but the VX2000 will begin to warn about memory usage after about 50 messages are sent and received. Though it offers English, French, and Spanish, incoming high-bit ASCII is not supported well, and typing accented characters is cumbersome. Some of the Spanish interface text is in English, such as "Bandeja IN/OUT" (Inbox/Outbox).

The ringer and speaker are loud enough to hear at low levels, and the speakerphone is adequate at two meters. The vibrating ringer saps the battery quickly, and is not noticeable when walking with the VX2000 in your pocket. The microphone is excellent.

The phone book, agenda, and calculator are somewhat cumbersome, but satisfactory for light day-to-day use. Typing in names with spaces in the phone book, such as "John Q. Public", can be annoying, as spaces must be entered twice. The caller ID information is based on the entries in the phone book, and occasionally has trouble identifying callers who do not have their area code(s) listed in their phone book entry. The calculator loses precision and will suffer overflow/underflow errors very quickly.

Mobile web browsing and voice commands went unused.

"Not a good prepay phone." on by upchuck118

    Pros: speaker mode

    Cons: everything else

Summary: The phone is just plain horrible. I got mine for my birthday in January, 2004, and since then, I've had it replaced 4 times! The momory had to be updated and all. It also most of the time powers-on by itself while it's already on, and the ringtones are very childish and boring! DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!!!

"This phone is absolute crap, verizon doesn't even carry it except for prepay now. Worst available." on

Pros: I absolutely, 100% HATED this phone.

Cons: verizon wouldn't let me swap or give me a discount on a new phone without a new plan, so I paid cancellation fee and joined sprint just to rid of this terrible phone.

Pros: Good recption. Loud earpiece and speaker phone. Big display.Long battery life.

Cons: Owner's manual not too good. Verizon doesn't offer a full leather case for it.

"this is simply a good little phone" on

Summary: i agree with one user's comments that the reviews here have been a bit harsh. i've been with verizon a long time, and i've actually had a chance to own many of their phones at some point. i'm a big 'speakerphone' proponent (who wants to hold a phone to their ear while on the phone with their signifcant other for an hour?), and this phone is quite capable on that end, as well as having a calculator and calendar, which, say, the audiovox 9155 didn't have. i find the menu systems quite simple to use, actually - albeit it may in reality be a bit 'oversimple.' i agree, ringtones could be better, and lg could have chosen a more 'hip' font, but overall, this phone is a real winner! if i have one criticism, it would be that louder isn't always better - the speakerphone is SO capable, that it can seriously give you a headache in quiet environments, even on the lowest volume setting.
