  • "Ideal phone without bells and whistles"
    on by prufrock69

Pros Feels substantial, simple but catching exterior

Cons Main LCD screen is lacking, terrible ringtones

Summary I decided to stick with LGs because my vx4400 lasted me 2 and a half years on the original battery. Believe it. I missed out on the vx4600 so I decided to go with this model.
This is an ideal phone for those unimpressed with vcast, no need for bluetooth, and undiscriminating in terms of the screen and graphics options of their phone.
It is a nice slim phone thats nice to hold. It gets the job done in regards to calls and texting capabilities and thats all I need from the phone. I have gotten great reception everywhere I've gone [I live in DC though where verizon rules the roost]. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Whether its the phone or LG, this phone is way behind in terms of the GUI compared to Moto phones. Its a little clumsy to navigate around and the menu graphics seem outdated comparatively.
But overall, for those who want a phone that performs well and looks good, I think this is a wise and affordable choice. Hopefully the dependability of my vx4400 is norm for LG phones.

  • "Great features for a great price"
    on by Jeepers

Pros all the bells and whistles needed.

Cons So new its hard to find 3rd party items.

Summary I changed my service from T-Mobile to Verizon and my phone from E105 to the VX5200. The phone has normal styling and appears to be your run of the mill cell w/camera. Bascially it is, but with a few added features. The full color external display is great, it displays the time and date along with other system messages (caller ID). for me thats an important feature, it tells me who is calling before i answer. Ok, well, on to what i like about the phones functionality... First off, its crystal clear, works great even on 1 bar of signal. I read on one of the previous opinions they are saying there is a high pitch sound, I don't hear it, nor does my wife who has the same phone. They must have defective phones and should have them replaced. The camera works like any other and I rarely use it. There isn't a movie option or feature, but i have a video camera for such things. The voice menu coupled with the speakerphone is great! You can enable the speakerphone and press the voice commnand button on the side and just tell the phone what you want to do. I use it all the time, granted i can't use it on the highway because i drive a jeep sahara with a soft top. the highway noise is a bit too much to hear the phone. But when i am working at my desk or need my hands free its a super feature. the display is bright and crisp, it looks just find. The phone has a nice solid feel and is a little larger than my older phone, but it doesn't feel like cheap plastic.
I have been looking for a USB data cable with software to allow me to download the PIX's to my PC without doing a wireless data tranfer. I am sure that is soon to come.
So, my overall rating is that this phone is great for the low price (I paid less than $30 for the phone without rebates). would i get it again? yes. would i recommend it to you? yes. would i recommend it for a gadget freak, no.

  • "Personally, I love it"
    on by gilliang

Pros I love that it's all color screens

Cons A little smaller than I'm used to

Summary This phone is much better than any of the LG phones I've had before. The sound is much clearer and the menu is much easier to access and read. As well, the fact that the front caller ID screen is color is a major plus in my book. It always makes it easier to read when you get a call if say you're driving and can't take a good long look at the phone. Being color it's far more obvious what the screen reads.

  • "high-pitched noise from screen affects call quality"
    on by kazarocks

Pros some bells and whistles, camera, speakerphone, etc

    Cons high-pitched noise

Summary i got this phone because it's simple without a bunch of features i probably won't use, yet has features like a camera and speakerphone.
glad i'm not the only user on here to notice the high-pitched noise from the screen. i'm on my second lg vx5200 because i thought the high-pitched noise problem was tied to my first lg vx5200 phone. however, the other lg vx5200 phone has the same problem. the high-pitched noise which seems to come from the screen can be heard during phone calls, speakerphone, and the headset. wouldn't recommend it unless you don't mind a high-pitched squelching noise during your calls.

  • "Sucks!"
    on by JessicaP623

Pros color front screen- although it is tiny

Cons The most important things: SOUND QUALITY and RECEPTION!

Summary I really tried to like this phone...even gave it a week to grow on me. But, I just couldn't fall in love with a piece of crap. The reception was terrible...even in places where I always had great reception with my previous phone. When the phone actually had enough bars to connect a call, it sounded beyond horrible. There were all kinds of weird background noises and interference. It made voices sound incredibly tinny...to the point where you're squinting because the sound quality is so bad it's making your ears hurt.

A week later I went back to Verizon- returned the piece of crap LG VX-5200 and replaced it with a Motorola E-815. What a difference!!! I instantly fell in love with this phone. Sound quality is nearly as good as my house phone. Voice Dial works great. Front and inside screens are huge and colorful. Menus are fairly easy. This one is a keeper!
