"All over good phone with minimal imperfections"
Pros: slider camera lens, flash, driving mode, good speakerphone
Cons: no video camera, could be smaller, front lcd is only one color
Summary: i was originally looking at the lg 8000 and 8100. i got to the verizon store and both of them were ridiculously huge and expensive. i decided against them because i have no use for vcast. for an extra $15 a month i can watch tv at home. its cool that they have the technology to do that, but its really unnecessary unless youre ALWAYS on the go, which im not. i had a $100 credit from having verizon for two years, so this phone was free. i upgraded from my old 4400, which was losing its mojo. ive noticed the service on this phone is much better than my old one. the stub antenna is better than the retractable kind, because if those bend, the service is significantly worse. I live in a relatively rural area and this still finds four bars of service where my other one found 1. its a tri mode phone, and where i am we dont always have digital service, so the all digital phones arent really practical. ive read lots of reviews complaining that this phone drops calls frequently, but ive had 0 dropped calls in the 2 weeks ive had it. i particularly like the driving mode and speakerphone, which i didnt have on my 4400. the voice recognition is really good if you train the commands in speakephone initially. it also has a computerized voice which programs all your contact names for you. the only problem with this is if you have multiple numbers for one contact, it calls the first one automatically. program the one you call most as the primary line. the speakerphone is loud enough to put in the back seat of a car and still have a conversation with the person on the other line without them knowing theyre on speaker...(trust me...i tried it!!) As for the camera, its decent to get snapshots of random moments and for picture ids. it is NOT intended to take award winning photos. For a phone, its not bad. the flash works best when the subject is within 4 feet of the lens though. the cover does keep the camera protected, and you can take pictures with the side camera key and using the front lcd as a viewfinder. Although only in black and white, it gives you a good enough view for self portraits. i wasnt about to pay $75 more for the vx 7000 which has a video camera, but it would be a nice addition. one of my favorite features about this phone is that you can record voice memos and set them as various ringtones. im actually surprised verizon allowed this, because they nickel and dime you for everything else with get it now. you can also get a data cable to upload stuff from your computer to the phone, another way around the get it now service, which was previously the only way to get ANYTHING on these phones. the display is very bright and the keys are bright blue, but the shortest key light and backlight timer is 30 seconds, which can kill the battery if youre not careful. the menus are easy to navigate through, and you can change the menu color and into list or icon format. i also like that the charger plugs into the bottom rather than the cradle style of older phones. this makes it easier to use the phone when its charging, and is also more compact. overall, this phone is a good step up from a non camera phone unless you really need all the bells and whistles like vcast and bluetooth which are a waste of money for people like me who just need a simple phone with a few gadgets to keep you occupied.

I was going to upgrade to the LG vx8100 but after reading this review I am going to go with the vx6100 from my present vx4400. I really do not need all the extra features and the analog roaming has saved me in the past on the 4400 since I travel to many rural areas in the country.
