"Happy with my choice"on by jonb21
Pros looks great, mp3 player, great camera, great features
Cons wish it had internal antenna or at least a replaceable external antenna
Summary I just got this phone a couple days ago and i must say that i couldn't be happier with it. I love the color and look of the phone over all, however i do think it would have looked better with an internal antenna or at least the option to replace the current antenna with one that is smaller. I love the mp3 player on the phone and if you get the 1 gig micro sd card its like have an ipod in your phone. There are a lot of features that allow you to change the way the menu looks and how the regular display looks, with thing such as color removing that annoying ERI banner, also being able to take small video clips and using them as your wallpaper for both the main screen and front screen. The quality of the camera on this phone is great, the picture quality is very vivid, unlike the motorola v710 i used to have where all the pictures taken almosted looked black and white because of the lack of color and detail. The sound is great for the ringtones and mp3 player with the side speakers on the phone, sounds very clear. All in all its a great phone, with plenty of features to have fun with.
Pros Call clarity (thanks verizon). All of the above. Everything that comes to mind.
Cons Pic's are a little pixelated if seeting your personal wallpaper (not the phone's wallpaper).
Summary I don't know how many cell phones I had to return/buy. I switched carriers from cingular to verizon (the best decision ever made). Went through a couple of phones in verizon within my 15 day trial period. I started off with the motorola e-815 (really bad camera, and even worse personal wallpaper setting of your pic). I switched to the Motorola Q pda (nothing special). I only looks good, but performance wise, it needs work. I landed on the LG and loved the look. Decided to stop on that, because I like what I saw when I tried it out in the store. ALWAYS TRY THE PHONES BEFORE YOU GET THEM!! THIS PHONE IS PERFECT. There is only one slight mishap, and that is the pics. For a 1.3MP camera, the pics are pixelated. I found that if you have an account with kodakgallery or snapfish, just download the pic to your phone and you will get a better quality picture as your wallpaper. Other than that, NO BIG DEAL...I don't use this phone as a camera. GO OUT AND GET IT. YOU WON'T REGRET THIS HANDSET ONE BIT. I am definitely enjoying it.
Pros easy to use, good color display, camera has flash and high resolution
Cons TERRIBLE reception, and I live in DC
Summary I had this phone for a week before sending it back for something else. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to test 2 phones because I got this phone for myself and my boyfriend. From the start, both phones never got over 2 bars of reception. I owned the LG6100 before this phone and in areas where I had full reception with the old phone, such as my house and front yard, I had no reception and/or my calls were constantly dropped. When entering an area with no reception for a length of time (movies), the phone shuts off entirely, which was a surprise to me 3 hours after the movie when I tried to figure out why someone hadn't called me back.
The exterior LCD shuts off after 30 seconds, so if you want to check the time discretely, you still have to push a button to get it to come on. Plus, the time is very very small in the bottom corner of the exterior screen and hard to read. I used my phone like a watch, so this is a big drawback for me. Plus, what's the point in having a picture on the outside if it only comes on when in use.
The default text message is in abc mode, not word mode, so each time you send a text you have to manually select word mode. I searched and searched for a way to set word as the default and couldn't find it.
Only 10 ringers to choose from, but I think this is more Verizon wanting you to buy ringers. The 10 options they give you are pretty annoying, so you're forced to buy something.
The color screen is very nice. The display is large and has a high resolution.
The camera has a flash and takes much better pictures than my last phone, plus there's a video option.
Speakerphone and headset are loud, so there's no trouble hearing the other person. Plus, it is bluetooth capable.
It has lots of extra features if you want to do a lot with your phone such as the Mp3 player and streaming video.
Ultimately, even though I liked the phone itself, it's look and ease of use, none of that matters if you can't make a call or receive a call. When putting my old LG next to the 8300, the old phone had full reception, while the 8300 had one or two bars. This happened with both 8300's. I never had trouble making calls before on my old LG, but the 8300 dropped half my calls, or had no reception to make a call at least half of the time. Keep in mind, I live in Washington, DC, there are towers everywhere.
Pros Works the way a phone should, customization, user friendly, LG quality
Cons Outside screen is grainier than vx8100
Summary I don't understand why CNET's editors don't pay more attention to this phone. All the phones with cutting edge features get the spotlight, while it takes several weeks for CNET to post a poorly written review of this amazing phone.
Anyways, this phone is the most well-rounded, intuitive, and user-friendly phone I have ever used. I love that LG makes phones like this one for people who don't need all the bells and wistles in the world to make them happy with a phone. That's not to say that the 8300 will dissapoint someone who does want bells and wistles, it's more that none of them get in the way of using the phone to make calls.
Everything that should be good on this phone is, so I'll try to highlight some things that I think stand out.
-Almost everything on this phone is customizable. (I was appalled when I couldn't set a RAZR's shortcut key to go to the alarm clock.)
-The 4-way toggle is programmable as a user-defined shortcut in every direction.
-If you don't use V-Cast (like me) you can go into the service menu (Push the OK button, then push 0 seven times) and disable EV-DO service. Go to the Network Select option, then Mode Preference, then select 1X Only. My house gets spotty EV-DO coverage so turning it off seems to have made a noticeable increase in battery life.
-The stereo side speakers are amazingly clear and loud.
-The design is beautiful.
-This is both a pro and a con. Verizon has standardized its menu system on all of its new phones; while I don't like this because I feel that it limits the creativity of phone manufacturers, LG did a great job of making the most out of the menu and making it intuitive.
If you tried a RAZR (like me) and found that its sleek design can't make up for poor user-friendliness, get this phone immediately and you won't look back.
Pros bluetooth, mp3 player, text/pix messaging, good camera
Cons none really.
Summary i recently got this phone as a upgrade from my old vx6000.
i have found a way to get mp3's onto the phone without purchasing them through vcast or using verizon's music essentials kit (30.00 at stores)
first, press menu. then pres 0 6 times. this will bring you to "services" menu. scroll down..and select number 11. (music setting) change the setting to mp3 enable.
go and purchase a MICRO SD memory card. make sure you don't buy the mini sd. the vx8100 used this type of card, but it wont work with this phone. the micro sd card will come with a mini sd adapter. save it you will need it.
now, take the micro sd card, place it into the phone and format the card. then, take out the card, place it in the mini sd adapter.
put the card into a reader/writer. u should see a folder named "my mp3's" drag and drop the music to that folder, remove the micro sd card from the adapter, place it back in your phone and you should be good to go! really loud speakers really make this phone great.
now, go to settings and tools, and select phone settings. go down to number 2, (shortcut key) and go down to number 5, play key. change it from vcast music to my mp3s. hit ok.
now, close the phone, with the phone closed, press and hold the play button and your music will begin playing!
*note if you use Itunes to get your music u may run into some trouble** ive seen another lgvx8300 and tried to load music on it this way, and the music locked up.
just download from limewire or some other service and you shouldn't have any trouble.
this phone rocks! i love it!!
bluetooth works great..and battery life is good too. you can't get much better with this phone!! way to go lg!!!
