"Don't Be Fooled By The Review"
on by ADStephensPros High Quality Build and Sound
Cons Price (with exception)
Summary Don't be fooled by the review. You can transfer files to and from the phone through BlueTooth. That being said you can have free MP3 or MIDI ringtones and Wallpaper. You can also transfer the photos and videos to your PC and send through normal e-mail channels without paying the per message charge. You can also convert videos to the 3G2 format and transfer them to the phone to watch on there. Nice loud speaker for calls and excellent sound for MP3 playing. Granted I will admit the $299 price tag was a turn off but I got $100 off for New Every Two with Verizon plus $100 rebate. So I only played $99 for the phone.

"WILL PEOPLE STOP POSTING FAKE REVIEWS! Let's be honest here !"
on by SuperAnomorePros The LG VX9800 is a great phone with some problems but they can be corrected.
Cons Nothing if you know where to look in order to find ways of correcting the problems you are dealing with.
Summary I have to post this!
I came to Cnet to find a good MP3 player and decided to look up cell phones while I was here. I own the LG VX9800. I have owned it for a while now. The phone has some quirks like any product out there. But I searched Google and Dogpile, I read troubleshooting list, asked Verizon and LG questions, I did what many do and tried my best to correct the problems I "was" having with this phone.
Most user reviews on this phone are honest. But there is a nice size chunk of people that don't own the phone at all. Who are just posting poor ratings using other peoples complaints. Then there is others who post problems that can be corrected just by reading the troubleshooting list on Verizonwireless.com.
The whole idea that people are turning this review into a battle between carriers is pointless. We in here that are using Verizon are using them for our own reasons. I don't care why others have chosen they carriers, but you will not see me trying to cram my own views down anyone elses throats.
So I feel like I need to establish these facts.
One# This review is for the Verizon Wireless VX9800 wireless phone. If you don't own the phone, if you use another carrier but just happen to play with the VX9800 for a few minutes, if you had one of these phones for one day then took it back. THEN DO NOT POST IN HERE! You are throwing off the entire purpose of this listing. To inform others with valid reviews. If you have barely tried correcting the problems with your phone, then try your best, then come back in here to post.
Stop with this (Oh my phones web browser is acting up, so let me post a 1 rating!). You should be rating all of the good and bad. AND NO PHONE ON THE MARKET IS COMPLETELY PERFECT!
Two# We do not care what carrier you use, so STOP MAKING FAKE ACCOUNTS AND POSTING JUNK ON A PHONE YOU DO NOT OWN! I personally hate Cingular, T-Mobile, and Metro PCS. But you will not see me making accounts posting things on their phones. BECAUSE I DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES ANYMORE AND I DON'T CARE TO! SO STOP IT ALREADY!! Stop posting these one liner reviews just quoting other people. We will never leave Verizon based on your reviews.
Third and Lastly# If you are going to post, go into detail if you have a problem. Explain it so others can help. By saying (My phone makes a funny noise), WE CAN NOT HELP YOU BECAUSE YOU GAVE US NOTHING TO GO BY! If you are having a problems, then odds are others have and can help. But by posting two lines with pointless problems, it is not enough to let us help you, or even want to help you.
JUST BE HONEST PEOPLE!! This is a great phone with some problems that can be corrected by taking action on your own. -
"I was really hoping this phone came to Sprint!"
on by cornerofnonwherePros Great phone that can send e-mail and txt with a full keyboard.
Cons On Verizon's network it is limited.
Summary Verizon wants for most of their PDA phones $44.99 per month for their unlimited data usage. Sprint only charges $10 for that very same access. With any EV-DO device, including PDA's, Sprint charges $15 a month for unlimited.
Verizon limits everything you can download and use on your phone. You have to download BREW programs from (ONLY)Verizon for use on your Verizon phone. You can not download a BREW program from anywhere else! You also can not use JAVA! So all of the programs made by companies from all over the world are useless to you are your Verizon phone. And since Verizon holds all of the cards, they can also limit what sites you may goto. Ask any Verizon customer that uses the web and let them tell you the their annoying stories.
Also, Verizon does not allow you to take your MP3's & photos and use them on your phone. No! ONLY VERIZON CONTENT!
Sprint on the other hand lets you use any of your custom ring tones, video ring tones, streaming video, wallpapers on your Sprint phone. Sprint does not limit what sites you can access. Sprint lets you use ANY Java programs on your phone. Sprint has the peace of mind to know that their customers are not little children and lets them have their privacy.
Verizon's VCast is really limited. Very few things can be customized and added. Sprint lets you choose from, and customize your content. Verizon has some pretty pricey plans. Sprint has Free Incoming and the Fair & Flexible America plans. Free PCS-to-PCS & PCS-to-Nextel calling. On top of roaming on the entire Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, and Many other networks for free. Nights starting at 7:00PM and 6:00PM! Sprint has way more plan features then any other carrier. -
"Very nice LG and Verizon phone!! Wish it was Java though."
on by HATEBILLOREILLYPros full keyboard, spoken alert and TXT reading, long battery life, great looking interface, removable memory card, 1.3 MP camera, and more.
Cons I am both a Sprint and Verizon customer. While both are great carriers, Verizon's BREW interface is limited. I wish there were more third party BREW browsers and other content.
Summary I am both a Sprint and Verizon customer. I love both carriers on the same level. while Verizon's BREW interface is great looking, it is more limited then Sprint's Java. The lack of BREW content aside, this phone is perfect!! Tons and tons of great features and still small enough to fit in your pocket.
WAY, WAY better then T-mobile's Sidekick!! -
"nice phone with PDA functions for less money then a Blackberry."
on by betterbutternuttPros Sleek look, smooth feel, speach-to-text, mobile web 2.0 access, EV-Do acess, MP3 player, and camera.
Cons I wish Verizon made it easier to set MP3's as ring tones.
Summary The VX9800 is like a PDA but it is cheaper then
those expensive phones. The battery life is great on this phone. don't listen to the negitive on that. the standard battery is a long life battery and the extended gives a good six hours of web access and 5 hours talk time.
Overal a pretty nice phone. With a new contract I got the phone for $145 with a rebate.
