"If you were tired of the lacking features of some of the older nextel phones, you will like this one" on by F-Bobby
Pros: nice typical Nextel rugged design, I dont feel like I'm gonna break it if i drop it.
Cons: If you want a camera, an mp3 player, or frills, this isnt the phone for you.
Summary: Well I've been a nextel Loyalist for over 5 years. While others that I know have switched phone companies claiming they couldnt deal with the dropped calls, I stayed with them. Well I'm glad I did. I've had 4 different nextel phones, the I-1000 plus (you all remember that one) an I530 (first of the mil spec rubberized phones, an I-730 (despite it not being a mil spec phone I used it for over 2 years with no problems)and now I've got the IC502. This is the phone for someone who works in a shop, or at a contruction site, or somewhere else where the phone would be subjected to a decent amount of abuse. Its also the phone for people who don't need any of the extra frills such as a camera or an MP3 player or bluetooth. However even lacking these seemingly standard features This phone really changes the Nexel standard in user-friendliness. The other phones Ive owned had almost NO support for text messaging, the I 730 did, but it would not allow you to import a number from your contact list so you had to manually type in the number. It was a real pain. This phone allows you to import the number saving lots of time. One of the other neat features is the ability to Record Ringtones from any musical device using the voice record feature. At first I thought it wasn't going to work very well, but I was pleasently surprised by the quality of the recording. It takes a bit of trial and error to find the correct volume level and distance from speaker to phone, but nevertheless, not having to pay 2.00$ a ringtone is quite handy and being able to make the ringtones whatever I want them to be is very nice. Overall I'd disagree with the main review, if you are a long time Nextel Loyalist as I am, you will easily overcome the change in menu options and te other new features in lieu of having thses nice new features that really make the phone a lot easier to use then previous models. But You will still face the typical problems that Us Nextel people have been dealing with since the beginning. I purchased the extended battery life version of the phone and on a full charge it MIGHT last 3 days of alternating use and standby. This is somewhat dissapointing but once again us Nextel people will be used to this and accept it as a fact of life when dealing with these phones. As compared to phones from other companies the Nextel phones have always lacked the real Refinement. But they seem to be on an upward track thanks to the partnership with Sprint.

"Motorola product, they are a pain to get repaired" on by marthaannd
Pros: Two provider service (Nextel and Sprint)
Cons: So many problems with software updates Sprint can't keep up with it, and the phones don't work well
Summary: I bought 3 of these phones. They all had to have the extended life batteries (about $60 a peice, plus new backs) this didn't fix the problem. I had to send one phone off to Motorola to be repaired, I sent it July 30, and they have been promising me they would replace the phone, but I am still waiting for a phone! meanwhile, I am paying Sprint for the phone service, that I am not even using because if I cancel it, they will charge me $200 to cancel. I have emailed Motorola, I call them on a daily basis to tell them how much they suck, but I still don't have that phone. Think twice before you buy or you may end up like me, paying for something and getting nothing.

"I wanted to leave Nextel but when I switched to this phone, it became my shine in the night." on by jtmooney
Pros: I've had the 730, 870, blackberry 7520, and now this one. This phone is the best. It doesn't drop calls. I get great reception and it's sturdy.
Cons: It has a small LCD, no camara, can't find drivers for the phone for downloading and I had to buy another car charger.
Summary: This is a great phone to buy. I've been with Nextel for over 6 years. If a camera or Bluetooth enabled phone doesn’t matter to you, then this is a great investment!

"Works great" on by billjbcomm166
Pros: Great Service, Rugged, Comfortable
Cons: Thin antenna when extended
Summary: I have Nextel for years. Their phones have always been big, and heavy, but very durable. I recently upgraded to this new Hybrid phone from a I710. Since receiving this phone I am very pleased with it. I have had nextel for so long I was use to being in areas(like my kitchen) and not being able to receive service. This new phone is great with coverage. I am in the Pittsburgh area and Nextel is good when stay near major roadways or when your in a building or house. This Phone seems to work where my old Phones did an them some. It also has some features that the other phones didn't have. Now When I am on a phone call I can see when somebody is trying to 2way me. the lighted PTK button is nice, I have read reviews were other users had problems with sound but my is loud an clear with no glitches so far. I do notice that the square button on the top of the phone doesn't let scoll through contacts like some of my other phones did. It also doesn't seem as rugged as some others but it is slimmer so i can actually get it out of pocket in time to answer a call. also the antenna is pretty thin I am a little concerned that I will snap it when getting snagged on this. Overall though I really like it and would recommend it to any nextel sub.
