"***Great Start for Amp'd!***" on by JohnAP2
Pros: Excellent quality, strong signal, good features, great looks
Cons: Lack of MP3 equalizer, having an external antenna, & so-so battery life
Summary: I was a bit skeptical about switching to Amp'd from Nextel because the company is so new. After looking at rate plans for the other major carriers I decided I would get the best bang for my buck with Amp'd (verizon).
The Motorola Hollywood was the only real choice amongst the 2 offered at the time. I have been very happy with this phone which is basically a Verizon E815 modified to work with Amp'd mobile's awesome content. Lots of great features and a nice, big colorful screen. I do not like external antenna, but the reception of this phone is so good I really cannot complain too much about it.
They provide a data cable, charger, 128MB micro-SD card, and even a decent set of sound isolating earbuds with the phone. The only thing missing is a belt clip...or case, but most phones do not come with them anyway.
I found the manual to be lacking for people who are not experienced with Motorola cellular phones and they should provide much more information. Not everybody knows how to transfer MP3 files, pictures, and video files!
All in all I am very happy with not only this phone model, but my choice to try Amp'd mobile! -
"The worst cell phone and carrier I've ever tried" on by jbeswick
Pros: Finally leaving the service
Cons: Battery life, reception, service, overcharging...
Summary: The extraordinarily awful Amp'd service sums up a pretty much lousy 2006. I've yet to find a cell phone service that's quite as bad as Amp'd, so before you get sucked into their marketing, let me count the ways in which nothing works with Amp'd:
1) The cell phone needed charging twice a day. Completely unacceptable.
2) The PC integration never worked.
3) Their support is completely non-existent both on the phone and on the net. The phone support is an endless stream of robots telling you the same thing.
4) The Hollywood phone is Motorola worst phone to date. Navigation makes no sense, the camera doesn't work, the video doesn't work, and - of course - it crashes non-stop.
5) The phone refused to update firmware without crashing - and buying any multimedia content was a nightmare.
That's the general stuff, now for my personal gripes:
1) When the phone stopped making or receiving calls three weeks ago, I called their tech support every day. I was walked through the exact same time-consuming steps to be told that I should "try again in 30 minutes". After three weeks, T-Mobile was looking like the best service on earth.
2) When I canceled, they charged $150 for the service and phone that didn't work, just two months after signing up. That was the most efficient thing their customer service ever did.
3) The $50 mail-in rebate was never honored.
Basically, this is the worst cell phone carrier I've ever come across. I've yet to find an accurate word for just how bad the whole experience is, and how far it falls short of its promise. -
"The Best Phone Amp'd Mobile's got, after the Q" on by iknowfones
Pros: Bluetooth (the slider phones don't have it), 1.3 megapixel camera, good reception, the cost of minutes
Cons: amp'd live has a mind of it's own, push-to-talk button is always accidentaly pushed, customer service is wishy-washy; sometimes they care and sometimes they hang up on you.
Summary: (note: this phone is really a 8 but, i bumped it up to a 10 due to the mediocre reviews)
i got this phone at circuit city. though it was more expensive than the kyocera jet phone at best buy, i wanted this one because of the bluetooth and the 1.3 megapixel camera. i had some trouble activating it and the first time i called, i got a guy who made up the excuse, the computers were down. the next time i called, i got a lady who got me all set up with my phone. amp'd live is great for while your wait for and your on the train and the internet is fast for a phone. the last phone i had was a t-mobile pay-as-you go phone that sucked and i was glad when it died so i could buy a new one. in closing, ignore the reviews on this site, amp'd is not all that bad, but i will admit, it is not what it is all hyped up to be. the pricing beats t-mobile, virgin, especially boost, and it really beats tracfone. the Hollywood is the best phone for the pay-as-you-go plan, and the best phone for a contract if you can't shell out the 200 bucks for a Motorola Q. -
"From Wht I have experienced its both the service and phone is good" on by marcusab
Pros: Good Quality Calls, Nicely Designed(Could have been alittle bit more original), Nice Features and the Plans are very godo
Cons: Needs more memory, could have been better designed
Summary: My co-worker has joined this company and let me make a phone call on it, I must say its a very good service. Calls barely drop works everywhere I need. I see alot of people on here complaining and You guys might want to check your area to see who is the best for your service. MPS, if join one of the entertainment plans you can listen to the radio, watch tv, dowload video and music all for a good price. Honestly speaking compared to some of these other companies there's is very good to be new. Look at their plans and some of the other provider plans, you're being gipped.
