"What cell phones use to be." on by toproy

Pros: Rugged, reliable, excellent reception and clarity in both Nextel and phone modes. Easy to use, no useless features. Can be used as a walkie talkie even outside the Nextel coverage with another compatible phone.

Cons: Screen could be a little tougher and larger and with better resolution. No data integration with a desktop.

Summary: My first cellphone ever was a Nokia 232... that was back in 1994 (God I am old) and that thing was immortal. One time I had a fight with a girlfriend which ended with the phone being slammed against a solid rock wall... and the screen cracked but the phone kept on rocking until I replaced it for an Erikson that I hated.
So when I was ready to replace the Erikson, (very soon mind you) I saw a display of a Motorola Star Tack that had been mauled by a bulldog and the phone still worked.
Since then, all I bought was Start Tacks, I even had a super cool and super expensive (400 dollars or so) Stark Tack Vader. I was forced to stop using it when every carrier I knew switched to digital from analog.

Since I moved to the "smart phone" segment of phones and I have had them all, Palm, HTC, iPhone, currently a G1... you name... I've tried it or used it. I use my G1 mostly for data tethering and email access, but I hate it for calls.

So now that I opened a business that needs a Nextel... I am in love again with Motorola. Where my G1 needs to be constantly plugged it, I can forget about the Motorola for 3 days or more and still have plenty of power for a call. It is what a phone used to be, a useful tool to use whenever necessary.

I have been thinking on breaking free from the smart phone craziness to go back to basics.

With a 10 dollar a month plan that allows me UNLIMITED direct connect to any other NEXTEL phone in Canada, Mexico and USA... how could you ever go wrong.

I love Nextel and I love my Motorola.

"The basic of the basic, but acceptable!" on by brickbd

Pros: Phone does exactly what it is made to do with no bells or whistles! Clear screen and nice rubber coating to keep it from being damaged during those long falls.

Cons: Basic at best. NO BELLS, NO WHISTLES!

Summary: If you want to JUST make or recieve a call this is your buddy! If you need to text in a hurry or get to the point, this is your buddy. If you want fun times, look else where

"Sturdy phone but stops working after 1 year." on by bengi1234

    Pros: Sturdy and dependable

Cons: Evidently designed to break. Run account with over 100 phones and about 25 of these in use. As soon as 1 year warranty expired, most phones stopped working within a month, displays inverted or disappeared.

Summary: Overall good design but made not to last and unfortunately what gives US manufacturing a bad name.

"Great PHONE, rugged, dependable, intuitive, no BS!" on by scalewoodman

Pros: I appreciate the talk clarity and volume; the design is easy to use; rugged with BIG BUTTONS well illuminated. Masculine without being glitzy. Great battery life, speaker phone performance, fast to charge, easy applications like Telenav.

Cons: For data use or Telenav, it would be nice to have a larger screen.

Summary: If you're looking for bling or to make some kind of style (or ego) statement, this is not your phone. BUT if you are looking for a functional tool to make and receive phone calls (sort of a novel idea these days!) with BIG BUTTONS a great choice. Works easily with Blue Tooth headsets (and Synch). Everything to like, nothing not to like. Good value for those of us that get used to things and keep them for awhile.

Thanks to aging, I like big buttons and clear functions that can be used easily w/o reading glasses. I like clear strong sound and knowing people can hear me well. I like the Motorola brand, a strong US brand (even if it's probably made offshore). The i576 has exceeded my expectations.

I like the 2-way functionality and the lack of glitz suits my style! I have the Everything Plan and the rep tried to talk me into Blackberry or upgraded data phones.

The only problem is I wish everybody (all of my customers and associates) had Nextel and used 2-way so we wouldn't be leaving messages back and forth all the time and could keep the friendly chatter to a minimum! Glad to see Sprint is supporting the Nextel brand; sorry so many users were lost during the bad years. Time to earn them back!
