"Just purchased KRZR K1M" on by blugene
Pros: Looks great
Cons: Cable and Software for MP3 xfer NOT included
Summary: I just purchased a KRZR K1M. One of the main reasons I purchase this phone was for the MP3 player feature. I was surprised that it didn¡¦t come with the cable and software to download music.
If you want to download music from your computer you will need a cable & software. If you have a digital camera you probably already have the cable. It¡¦s a USB to mini USB. It can be purchased on www.hellomoto.com . You will also need software called Phone Tools, also available on the hellomoto website. It is about $40 and does much more than download music. If you download a lot of music you will also need to purchase a MICRO SD memory card. (Not a MINI)
It also doesn¡¦t come with a belt clip. You can purchase gloves, leather sleeves, etc. I purchased the standard black plastic one. It looks fine and the phone can rotate so it can be worn horizontal. The holder is designed to hold the phone face down. I guess this is to protect the face. At first I thought this was weird but as soon as I started using it, it made perfect sense. When you pull the phone out of the holder it¡¦s instantly ready to flip open. If you do put it in the holder face up, the holder will push the button on the side of the phone and the MP3 player will start. That took me awhile to figure out. ƒº
I love the way this phone looks and feels, and will update this if I find any flaws.Updated
I have to retract some of my original misconceptions. You do not need the Phone Tools Software to copy MP3 from your computer to the optional memory card in your phone. If you want to put MP3 in your phone internal memory you would. You don’t even need the USB to Mini USB cable but it’s a lot easier. If you don’t use a cable you would need a card reader and have to take the memory card out of your phone to copy files.
Things I learned so far: KRZR (Tech Support (800) 972-1837)
Make phone default connection USB: On phone open Settings, pick Connection, pick USB Setting, and pick USB Drive
Make the Memory Card the Storage Device: On phone open Media Gallery, pick Sounds, pick Options, and pick Switch Storage Device, select Memory Card
Now you are set to copy files to your memory card. Connect phone to computer with a USB to Mini USB cable. On computer pick Start, pick My Computer. Your phone will be a Removable Disk. Double Click the Removable Disk. (you may need to format if first time) Just open your music folder and drag music onto the disk. NOTE the files must be MP3 AND they can not be in folders! Before you unplug the cable make sure you pick the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon at the bottom of you computer screen and select the drive.
I still like my KRZR! My main complaint is that you can’t delete the MP3 sound bites that came with the phone (ring tones) When you are listening to all your songs, they play in the mix. I found a way around that HORRIBLE problem. You can listen to one album at a time or just create Playlists in the Media Gallery. You can select what music you want in each Playlist you create. -
"Nothing Special" on by GDFan19
Pros: Sleek, stylish interface; call quality is good
Cons: Front is not durable at all; Front gets fingerprints too easily; Vibrator is soft and not very noticeable
Summary: I got this phone for Christmas when I was 12 and had it for about 2 years. It was my first phone, and I absolutely loved it...at first. I tend to be a clumsy person, but even with the protective cover on the phone, the front still managed to get cracked. I went through THREE Krzrs until out contract expired and I could get a new phone. Now that phones are much more technologically advanced, this phone probably isn't even up for consideration for most people. Unless all you look for in a phone is to be able to make calls and take a couple pictures, then don't buy it. It's a nice first phone for a kid, but other than that, it's nothing special.
Besides, I'm pretty sure the carriers that had these in stock have discontinued them. -
"nice little phone, but not very durable..." on by azbycx16
Pros: includes mp3 player, songs can be used as ringtones, some nice features
Cons: mp3 player can be slow to load, not very durable.
Summary: I have had this phone about 5 months and I am suprised it has lasted this long. It is very light weight and does not feel durable. I am constantly worried about dropping it or breaking parts off. It also has an mp3 player with excellent playback, and the ability to play mp3 songs as ringtones with excellent quality (once you figure out how). The only downside to this is that it takes a while to load, and will sometimes turn itself on while it is in my pocket. Trust me, it is akward to be sitting talking with someone, and having seether start playing on your phone, when you KNOW it's on vibrate. Despite these drawbacks, it is a fairly nice little phone.

"Good phone, albeit expensive..." on by ZTBELL21
Pros: Great internal screen, good sound quality
Cons: Not as durable as most phones in it's class
Summary: After owning this for a year, I can honestly say this phone is decent. However, it's not that good for those who do sports or go on the road...
First, the internal display and sound quality are very good. I can easily see web pages and pics with the internal screen. The external screen is somewhat small and is OK for the clock, but not so for the music player.
One of my gripes is the glass front, as it shows fingerprints and can be cracked fairly easily. But gripes aside, this phone is decent for someone looking at the fashion factor and not so much at use on the road.
Personally, I would rather have an iPhone, but USCC doesn't offer iPhone due to Apple's license with AT&T. -
"Disappointing out of box experience" on by fallingace
Pros: Mp3 player with external controls
Cons: AT&T gets the better Krzr
Summary: The out of box experience was disappointing. First, the included headphone is not stereo. No big deal, except, you cannot just plug in a normal set of headphones. You need a special usb>3.5mm adapter. Not a very elegant solution for what is supposed to be a stylish phone. Second, you cannot just connect the phone via usb to your computer and start downloading songs. No driver is included with the phone and you cannot go to the Motorola website and download it. Motorola phone tools is not included with the phone. I really don’t want to have to remove/replace the memory card every time I want to add songs to my phone. So, in order to use this phone as an mp3 player, I had to purchases extra hardware and software.
In general use, the mp3 player has decent quality but lacks an E.Q. Call reception is good. Call quality is average. One plus is that the phone can use mp3s as ringtones. No need to buy ringtones for songs I already own (eat that apple). The touch sensitive external controls are nice, but are easy to accidentally hit when handling the phone. Pictures with the 1.3mp camera a good at close range pictures, but somewhat lacking for room size shots. The camera lens is embedded in the front of the phone and really easy to get smudged over.
The U.S. Cellular version of the Krzr is the lower end Krzr. The AT&T Krzr gets a 2.0mp camera and stereo bluetooth. This phone has been surpassed by the Motorola V9M which came out a month after my 30 day return grace period.
