Times are tough, so the last thing you might feel like doing is dropping a lot of cash on a new phone. Realizing this fact, AT&T introduced on Tuesday the new Motorola EM330, a midtier music phone that can be had for free.

Of course, the $0 price tag comes after signing a two-year contract and receiving a $50 rebate, but once you've done that, you get a music phone that offers 3D sound, a built-in equalizer with 11 presets, and a built-in FM radio. In addition, the Moto EM330 includes Motorola's SongID technology, so you can identify songs from the phone's radio and then purchase them from AT&T's Music Store. The handset has only about 20MB of user-accessible memory, but, fortunately, you can expand that with the microSD slot, which accepts up to 2GB cards.

To control your music, there's a touch-sensitive external display that surfaces dedicated music-player keys when needed, and you can listen to your music via various methods, as the EM330 comes equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for stereo Bluetooth.

Other highlights of the phone include a 1.3-megapixel camera with 4x zoom and video recording capabilities, Motorola's CrystalTalk technology for clearer call quality, and a WAP 2.0 Web browser. The Motorola EM330 is available from AT&T now.

Summary: It's a bland-looking handset with a mediocre display, but the EM330 does offer some features usually reserved for much more expensive handsets. It's definitely worth a look if you're on a strict budget.
