    "HATE this phone! Horrible!"

    by lc81002 on December 23, 2008

Pros: Rubbery coating on exterior seems like it would be fairly scratch- and wear-resistant.

Cons: Battery dies very quickly (exchanged for a new one and no improvement), gets no signal in places my old phone or my husband's phone (also Verizon) got full strength signal, rubber covers for charger/headphones won't stay in place, LOUD ringtones.

Summary: We are on the "new every 2" plan and my husband decided to upgrade his phone to the LG Dare. I have never really cared about having a fancy phone, so we just went with the B1G1 deal at the time, which was for this Motorola phone. I didn't even use the phone once, and the battery died within 12 hours of bringing it home. I fully charged it and it didn't last 24 hours on that. I was also annoyed that the little rubber covers that go over the ports for the charger/USB cord and headphones are nearly impossible to push back into place correctly and constantly popped out.

We took it back to the Verizon store and asked to change to a different phone, but were told that we'd have to pay a $35 restocking fee plus the difference in price between the phone and whatever new one we picked out. They said at the store that nobody had ever brought one of these phones back and complained about it, so they really thought it was defective. We decided to not be out any money and swap it for the same phone. The new one holds a charge a little bit longer than the first one (about 24 hours - still MUCH less than it is supposed to last, and compared to my old phone, which lasted ~2 weeks on one charge, this is just ridiculous) but the battery life is still a joke. It also gets no signal in many places where my old phone worked just fine (like, oh, in my HOUSE...and we have no land line, so I need my phone to work at my house!), and where my husband's phone (also on the Verizon network) gets a strong signal and works fine.

Verizon has agreed to let us exchange the phone for a different one now, but we will still have to pay the $35 restocking fee. I think that's ridiculous, but at this point I hate this phone so much that I will pay the darn $35 to be rid of it and get something that actually works. Heck, I'd rather have my old phone reactivated than deal with this one any longer! It's a little beat up after 2 years, but at least it gets a signal and doesn't die on me all the time!

The poor signal reception is probably causing the short battery life. I used to have no service at home, as the two closest towers were both several miles away and both obscured by hills, so I generally only turned my phone on when I was out & about. (I should add, I have no experience with this specific phone - I'm generalizing from my experience with a completely different one.) If I left the phone on at home by accident, it would be dead in under 24 hours from a full charge. Then VZW built a new tower nearby. I have decent cell service at home now, and a charge will last 7-10 days with the phones on all the time. This is with the same phone, same batteries, same carrier, same plan, same house, same me, same everything, the only difference being the new nearby tower providing service where there used to be none.

Point being, if you have great cell reception, you might not have a problem with short battery life on this phone.

I know from personal experience that if you don't follow the initial charging directions precisely you can have problems with battery life. The instructions for this phone in the "small guide" are not complete. In the big guide they are. I wonder if that is what caused the battery life issue. I like mine and don't have a battery life problem.

I would like to know what phone yous husband has that gets the signal. I live way out and want a phone with a strong signal and battery.

I agree with you fully. It's THE crappiest phone I ever had. Doesn't hold its charge! My husband thinks the same - if they are free, there is a reason why.
