• "Outlook sync software for this phone"
    4.5 stars
    on by slate183

Pros: Very thin, solid materials, voice recognition is great

Cons: No Vibrate + ring at the same time. Speakerphone could be louder

Summary: OK. The phone is great. But I wanted to leave this review to aleviate some of the pain that other people have gone through related to the software used to sync this phone. Mobiletools version whatever stinks. I found a better product. Datapilot. I just loaded this software and hooked up my phone and it worked great. it fixed the issue that Mobiletools has where you can only have 1 # per contact. I have multiple #s for each contact in Outlook and they are shown that way on my phone. I am also using Office/Outlook 2003 if you have any concerns about compatibility.

Oh, I should mention that the voice recognition on this phone is amazing. You dont even need a name just say "Call" and then say the #s and after a confirmation, it dials away.

I actually found the ring/vibrate functionality. You have to set the mode to VIBRATE only and in "Vibrate Detail" select a ring and then it will do both at the same time

Something else helpful as a prior sprint customer, i missed not having to enter my password when I get my voicemail every time. Well, with Verizon, if you set up your voicemail under speed dial 1, for example, and then enter (*86 + ' 2 pauses' + your password) as the actual # to dial, then it automatically enters your # when the voicemail asks for your password, ou will only have to hit one button to retrieve your messages.

the voice recognition does have an annoying bug (for me, at least): there is no redial command like my v710 had. I miss that even on my superior E815.

Is there any way to change the red on the main screen? usually if you go under Display Themes, you can change it, but I am not quite sure what the "Display Themes" is changing when i select a different color.

does anybody know if its possible to receive photos, ringtones, etc. from other phones who are not on the verizon network through bluetooth, or has verizon crippled everything thats good?

The post says to set the phone to vibrate only and then change the detail for calls in the vibrate menu to a tone. Well, I did that and the phone only rang, did not vibrate....well it vibrated once after the incoming call hung up....any ideas?

I have been using Handset Manager from Mobile Action Technology Vers MA-8870(www.mobileaction.com). It syncs my Razr with Outlook (using Office 2003 Pro). It works great for both the calendar and contacts. It also comes with a USB Cable
that connects the phone with your PC. It also lets you upload files, pictures and MP3 music files. It also has a video Composer. I believe it cost around $40. Very "user friendly".

I have had many phones in my life and wanted the Razor bad from verizon. I used it for fourteen days and than returned it. Reason one and foremost battery life was exacly one hour and ten minutes on blue tooth. Not good if your a heavy user. No short cuts, side buttons were to easily effected by the softest touch. They said a bigger battery would be available but then why have a razor if there gonna make it fat just to work. I am now trying a V3 from cingular and so far much better.

Can Datapilot sync contacts and calendar entries? When you sync, does it sync everything in the phone or just what changed since the last sync? How long does it take? Any idea if it will sync via bluetooth?

Well, vibrate-ring doesnot work together, at-least in the phone that has been provided by vzw to us.
I also checked with the helpdesk (HD) of verizon as well as Motorola. Both replied that this feature doesnot work in this phone though the user manual suggests the same setup that was suggested in your posting.
Motorola HD suggests that in a newer s/w release they may get this feature incorporated. But vzw can only provide such new s/w release to us ( verizon consumers). Motorola will not provide such release to vzw customers directly.

When I spoke to verizon, they flatly refuse to promise any s/w release and claim that Motorola can only provide any such thing not vzw.
I think we are trapped into this phone as this feature missing from the phone really hurts and we may have to trash this phone ultimately. Unfortunately we are tied into a verizon conract for 24 months so it will cost about 250 + 170 + tax + activation + cost of a new phone, for each V3C phone, to be moved from verizon to some other provider.
Hope, corresponding businesses will pay little attention to our small problems so we do not have to suffer so much.

None of Sprints phones require you to enter your password to retreive voicemail, that is a user defined option. On all of their phones, all you have to do is hit the voicemail button and it takes you directly to your inbox.
