"This phone needs help."
Pros: Plays mp3's in wmp format but cannot be set as ringtone.
Cons: No TF transfer to phone, Pay for ringtones, Nothing free, Cannot DL any ringtones with browser software.
Summary: This phone is horrible. Verizon Wireless has killed this phone by locking out all sorts of options. I'm quite angry. You must pay for all extras you want to add to your phone, nothing free, and I mean NOTHING. I would recommend choosing another service provider before buying this phone with their rediculous 2 year contract. The phone comes with almost 0 ringtones. They have locked out all options for transfering data from your TF card to the phone for ringtones. The TF only servers as storage. You can add mp3's in WMP format and listen to them but no tweaking or adding as ringtone. If you want any of those you'll have to pay for them. Videos and all other options they boast on the phone, oops pay pay pay for those as well. Nothing free in the world of Verizon. Wait for the V3i that is coming soon and contract with another company. There is a way to email ringtones that you have edited to yourself though. Send them to your phones email address which is your # i.e. (xxx)xxx-xxxx@vzwpix.com. Attach the sound file to your email and it should come up on your messages. Select save sound and you're good to go. Just need to supply yourself with software for editing music and converting into WMP format.

I totaly agree with you! This is a horriable phone, ecspecially for all the teenagers of the world!

Pretty dumb review here, unless your entire phone revolves around the ring tone that you use. If that is your phones main feature, then through out the service, through out the camera, the video, the bluetooth, the mic, the screen, the light weight, the sleek design, and well built phone quality. just a stupid review revolving around ring tones, This review makes me want a phone like this just because it is so dumb

Your problem is with Verizon Wireless. They charge you for every little thing. The CDMA Razrs (Verizon, Sprint, etc) actually get great reception and are pretty reliable. You could switch to someone else to get more free features, but unfortunately the GSM Razrs (Cingular, T-Mobile) aren't so great when it comes to using the phone for what it was meant for: talking. Choose your tradeoff.

I now realize why none of my phones that I've had with verizon let me use the features that made me buy the phones in the first place, but I was wondering with them locking so many of the features does that mean that I have to ask them to unlock them? On all of the phones I've gotten from them, they were suppose to have screen savers that work, but mine never worked on any of my phones, and this one is no exception. However, my cousins have Verizon, and their screen savers work (mind you, they have new phones, and my Razr V3m is new too, but my screen saver doesn't work, like they said it would), so does this mean that it doesn't work period? Or do I have to ask them to unlock them? What if I didn't buy the phone from Verizon and I just bought it from a regular store? Would my phone work properly then? I'm so sick of the features they boast not working on my phone. Basically, the question is does the screen savers work for anyone? Do I have to ask them to unlock features? And would it be best to buy from a regular store? If I did do that, would Verizon still screw me over with the features?

Nothing in this world is free...nothing.

...so you can unlock everything Verizon doesn't want you to have.

I am ok with paying extra to get value added services. BUT, WHY SHOULD THEY CRIPPLE ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT ARE ALREADY ON THE GOSH DARN PHONE !!? (OBEX, anyone ?)
Anyway, the speakerphone quality is bad on this phone. Verizon's menu arrangement also sucks.
I am off to motomodders.net ... -
It seems to me that you are very unhappy with verizon. All verizon phones are the same.
If you want a phone to do all the things that you want, than simply by an i-pod.Verizon
happens to the the best carrier out there and
the most important thing is to be able to make and receive phone calls which you can do 98% of the time with verizon un like other carriers.I had no problems at all in downloading mp3 ringers to my phone and assigning them as a caller id ringer. And this is all free.I did not buy anything from verizon.Verizon is all about making money and that's why they charge for everything. You
get what you pay for with verizon. If you want good service, then you buy what you want and verizon takes that money and put's it back into the network to make it as good as they can. -
Verizon has been dis-abling the Bluetooth, (and any other extra goodies you can with other providers Razrs) - BUT, the Bluetooth worked/s flawlessly with my BMR - which is quite a feat and didn't cost me a dime.
Let's face it, if you're going to listen to MP3/WMPs, a cell phone is NOT the way to to.
Besides, Verizon's business strategy has ALWAYS BEEN that, give you a great phone, great coverage, and pay for every minute detail of service.
That's just the way they are.
BTW, in MY circumstance, CDMA technology is the ONLY technology that works well - other-wise I'd still be using T-Mobile's almost EVERYTHING is free after your absorb the cost of your monthly plan. (Be sure T-Mobile has coverage in your area, FIRST before taking my advice.)

Your problem seems to be with verizon and not the phone. Yes verizon charges for ringtones, but they do that with every phone regardless. You could always turn your mp3's into ringtones using free software which is easy enough to find on the internet. All you have to do is chop the mp3 down to 30 seconds or less.

I know you gotta fork over 29.99, but phone tools rocks! You can create your own ringtones, download your own, sink up your address book, outlook, etc. All for free when you buy the software.

Yes there is a way to play mp3 as a ringtone on the MP3 without hacking your phone. This is better than the "Email" mothd" because the sound quality is better and louder:
----------------------
Make a mp3 a ringtone without hacking your cell phone.
----------------------
This trick requires a little work but worth it. This is a better method than the
"Email Technique" or "Seem" method because it's playing your ring tone as a MP3
file and not a verizon audio compressed file. So the sound quality is better and
louder and you are not hacking your phone . Before doing anything, your file extension
in windows must be set as visible. Go to START, CONTROL PANEL, double ckick on FOLDER OPTIONS,
VIEW TAB, uncheck "Hide Extensions For Known File Types"
1) Make sure your Transflash card is in your phone.
2) On your phone go to "Get Tunes & Tones"
3) Select "Record New"
4) Select "Options" and switch the storage device to "mini-SD Card"
5) Go back to "Record New" and record a simple audio. It does not matter how long, I did it for 2 seconds.
6) Go back to "Get Tunes & Tones" and scroll down to the bottom and play (to make sure it recorded something) the new audio recording.
7) Shutdown the phone and put the Transflash into a PC.
8) Copy a mp3 file into the root directory of the Transflash card.
9) select one of the recorded voice file, right click, rename, copy the file name including the extension (.qcp)
10)Delete this recorded file you just copied
11) now go to one of the mp3 files, right click, rename, and paste that recorded file you just copied
(all you're doing is replacing the voice file you've recorded as an mp3 audio file. Your cell phone will still think it's a recorded voice files but in reality it's an mp3 audio file)
12 Repeat step 3-11 for every ringtone you want to add. One voice recording = One ring tone.
13) Once the Transflash is back into the phone assign the file as a ringtone to any contact.
**DO not try to rename the ringtone you just added
in your cell phone. If you rename it the ringtone, it will not work anymore. -
First, let me just say, yes Verizon is a pain, but since you have this phone for two years, stop whining and do something about it. If you visit www.motomodders.net and www.cellphonehacks.com, you will find that you can make this phone do everything you just said it can't do. There are lots of us out there, and together we can make this phone just about perfect. At motomodders.net go to the V3c forum and you will find a thread just for the V3m. People will respond to your questions and help you learn what you need to know.
